Wheat Supports Average Set At $2.08 A Bushel WASHINGTON UPi - The Agri culture Deparlment said Tuesday support rates for the 1955 wheat crop will average $2.08 a bushel nationally. This is two cents more than a minimum average an nounced at planting time last fall. The actual rates are higher than the previously announced mini mum because of a subsequent in crease in the wheat parity price. The rales are designed to re flect 82 V4 per cent of parity under the new flexible support system compared with 90 per cent nr a na tional average of $2.24 for last year's crop. Wed., July 6, 1955 The News-Review, Roseburg, Ore. 9 Up Control Of Powerful Spy Service be taken over by the West German government as a part of Chancellor Konrad Adenauer's office, the in formant said. It will serve as West Germany's counterpart of the U. S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Gehlen, who was chief of Hit ler's intelligence service on the Russian front during World War II, has been spending six million dollars of American funds yearly on his anti-Soviet espionage. He has been the target of al most continuous vilrolic abuse from the Communist press and radio. They have charged him with sending spies into East Germany to commit sabotage and gather information to undermine the East zone's lied regime. Gehlen has been one of Aden auer's trusted advisers on intelli gence matters and the Soviet Un ion for years but still is a .shadowy figure to the German public and most West German officials. A professional, army man, he now has his headquarters on an American military reservation near Munich which is guarded like an atomic reservation. He is reputed to have a staff of' 4,000 there, in addition to agents scattered throughout Europe.
