Sox Continue Hot; Williams Homers Again By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS If Ted Williams doesn't call it quits for good . this season, the Boston Red Sox management is going to be in one heckuva pickle how can you give a raise to a guy already making a hundred grand? A player in that salary bracket (which means Williams, although he's getting a scaled-down check because of his late start) doesn't figure to get a bonus no matter what he does. But he is worth $100,000 to the Red Sox and base ball, at the gate alone, just by putting on a uniform. 12 out of 14 . Take last night. The Red Sox made it 12 out of 14 by beating the fourth-place Detroit Tigers 5-4. It was Williams' home run with two on in the eighth that did it. When Williams came back May 28, Boston was 17-24 for the sea son. They won seven of the next 13 with Williams, still getting into shape, appearing only infrequent ly. Then, 10 games ago, Williams took over left field as a regular. Boston has won 8 of the 10, pulling up to .500 at 32-32. Ted has ham mered seven home runs, driven in 14 and batted .429 for the 10 games. The homer last night was on a 3-0 pilch by Ned Garver. Myrtle Creek Hires Coach Earl Miller, assistant football coach during the last school year, has been boosted to the top grid job at Myrtle Creek High School, reports correspondent itutb. M. Evans. He will replace Aubrey (Corky) Van Loo, who has resigned to take a coaching job at Oregon Techni cal Institute at Klamath Falls. Taking over Miller's old job will be Harold Winstrom, who was hired by the school board this week. He will serve as assistant in both football and basketball. Gene O'Brien was hired as ljlgh school freshman basketball and football coach. Two other teachers have bean hired to fill Myrtle Creek's de pleted teacher ranks. The Rainiers clipped the Bea vers 4-3 to run their victory skein to 10 straight and 17 of their last 19 games. It was Portland s first loss in seven starts. Seattle's win and Sacramento's surprising 5-3 upset of San Diego deadlocked the Rainiers and the Padres in first place. In other games, Hollywood blanked Oakland 3-0 and San Fran cisco beat Los Angeles 5-2. Seattle got all four of its runs in the first inning on a 3-run cir cuit clout by Art Schuli and Joe Ginsberg's double whioh scored Bob Balcena. The Beavers scored in the sec ond, third and fourth frames and Yundts Win Doubles Bowling Competition Lou and Paul Yundt posted a neat 1,202 series Tuesday . night at the Roseburg Alleys to win in mixed doubles bowling.
