The club met on the outdoor patio at the McAllis ter home overlooking the beauti ful grounds. Election of officers for the forth coming six months term was held with the following officers elected: President, Mrs. Fran Hoitcen; vice president, Mrs. Ruby Peter son; secretary, Mrs. Mary Bird; treasurer, Mrs. Edna Ebner; and club representative, Mrs Daisy Fox. Preceding the enjoyable af fair the invocation was given by the president, Mrs. Velma Alber tus. The topics for the evening were cleverly presented when Mrs. Edna Ebner passed a basket of various items for each member to choose as the subject of one minute im promptu speeches. Mrs. Margaret McCord was toastmistress and in troduced the evening speakers in a well planned manner. A new member, Mr. Irene Lockwood, told the story of her life in an entertaining icebreaker speech. Critic for Mrs. Lockwood was Mrs. Jo Leshcr. Mrs. Virginia Lau ranee's lively speech, "Tucson, Pro and Con" was criticized by Mrs. Fran Uolteen. A round table discussion was led by Mrs. Mary Bird with all members expressing their ooinion on the subject, "Are There Delinquent Children or De linquent Barents? Mrs. Mona Hult and Mrs. Helen Buell were elected to represent the local club at the International Toastmistrss convention in July at San Francisco. General evaluator for the recent meeting was Mrs. Vivian Laurence. Refreshments were served later in tiie evening to club members and two out of town guests, Airs. Marv Wilson of Santa Ana. Calif, and Mrs. Claire Laurance of Sa lem, by the nostess, Mrs. McAlliS' tor. The next meeting will be Wed nesday at Douglas High School with installation of new officers, Refreshments will be served by the outgoing club officers. MRS. WILLIAMS HAS 93rd BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION SUNDAY Mrs. Emma Williams ouietly celebrated her 93rd birthday Sun day with her family at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. D. (Mary) Love, in Garden Valley. Two of her other' daughters were also present, Mrs. Harvey (Kath arine) Ewcns and ' Mrs. S. L. (Maude) DeLapp. A great-grandson, Ronnie Redbarn, of Coos Bay attended. Other members were W. D. Love and Harvey Ew cns. Mrs. Williams received numer ous birthday cards and well wish es from her many friends. Mrs. Williams received long distance calls from her daughter, Mrs. P. H. (Margaret) Gulbran son of Los Angeles, Calif., -and her two sons S. C. and Joe Wil liams of Claresholines, Alberta, Canada. MRS. EVANS HOSTS GARDEN CLUB THURSDAY The North. Umpqua Garden Club met Thursday at the home of Mrs. James S. Evans on Lone Rock road. Mrs. Francis De Haan was welcomed back after spending (he past year In Holland. Mrs. J. A. Long of Roseburg was a guest of the club. Mrs. Janet Bluffy gave a talk on delphiniums, after which dainty refreshments were served by the hostess. The next meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. July 14, at the home of Mrs. Mcrt Weaver. Members will make flower arrangements featuring the Fourth of July theme.
