Stan's had his usual slow start so far, but he's perked up when the Cards needed him most. He's up to .317 as of today, moving up in a 13-game revival in which he's hit .375. Then on May 29, once again in sixth, the Cards pulled back into fifth by beating the Redlegs 7-2. Musial had just one hit but it was a three-run homer. Last night, the Redhirds again were on the verge of slipping into seventh place. And voila! Musial smacked 3 for 5, drove in three runs and scored himself in a 5-4 triunrph over the Phils.' That eased the Cardinals inio a fifthipiace tie with Cincinnati after the Bedlcgs had been blanked by the first-place Brooklyn Dodgers 4-0. Ahitd By Eight Brooklyn stayed eight games up as the runner-up. Chicago Cubs came from behind witJi four runs in the sixth to beat Pittsburgh 4-3 while the resurrected Milwaukee Braves knocked New York's Giantj out of third 13-4. tn the American, the New York Yankees remained 4Mr games out front while losing to Detroit 4-3 in 12 innings. The Chicago White Sax rained out in their game with Baltimore slipped into second place .005 percentage points ahead of Cleveland as the Indians lost to Boston 9-5. The only other AL action went to Washington, with, the Senators sweeping a twi-night twinbill at Kansas City 3-2 and T-3. GOP Shaffers Democrat Jinx WASHINGTON Ul - The Re publicans scrambled to a 12-4 vic tory at Griffith Stadium Tues day night to break a seven-year Democratic winning streak in the congressional baseball series. Scramble is a fairly apt word. The Republicans had the benefit'of six errors of record and numerous others that didn't go on the official scorecard. Additionally, Rep. Torbert Mac Donald of Massachusetts and his successors on the mound for the Democrats gave up nine, bases on balls. Republican hitters were credited with nine safeties, many of them gifts of a generous scorer. The Democrats' seven hits ted to four runs as Rep. Glenn Davis of Wisconsin pitched himself out of a series of jams. None of the pitch ers seemed able to control base runners once they reached first. There were 12 stolen bases.
