The Mildred Ritter -;holarship award of $25 for outstanding citi zenship and scholarship and. to stimulate college attendance was presented to Bill Pitts, who also won the American Cheni'cal Soci ety award for outstanding work in that department in high school. A one year's subscription to the Reader's Digest vas won by the valedictorian, Jeraldene 3ryson. Canyonville high school awards with medals to each and names engraved on the plaque were: val edictorian, Jeraldene Bryson; sal utatorian, Bill Pitts; activities, Jeraldene Bryson and athMics, Jerry McKinney. The Babe- Ruth sportsmanship awards, selected by the students, were won by Jeraldene Bryson and Jerry McKinney. Their aames are engraved on a placque. The Fallin Post No.' 13 award was presented by Walter McFar land to Bobby Strahan and Kathy Giles for good Americanism, sportsmanship, truth and honesty. Promotion Held In Canyonville By VIRGINIA PROCTOR Thirty-eight eighth graders were promoted in a special ceremony Wednesday evening, at the Can yonville gym, held separately from the high school commencement this year for the first time so that parents and friends of graduates and eighth grades could be ac commodated In the gym. The processional was followed by an invocation by the Rev. Er nestine Hitchcock of thj Methodist Church. Superintendent O. J. Mon ger welcomed the group to high school. Raymond Gaswint outlined the class's history after a group song. Fred Searle, elementary princi pal, presented the following awards: The three honor students who were on the honor roll aU year were Nadine Fuller, O r e n Gaskill and Linda Lohr. Voted out standing girl of the yea.' was Na dine Fuller. Dale Abel 'as voted outstanding boy. John Patterson was honored for a perfect attendance; also honored were l-ari Hopper, who missed two hours, and Raymond Gaswint, who missed one day. School patrol letters were given to Craig Anderson, Carolyn Brent, Oren Gaskill, Raymond Gaswint, Ruth Hathaway. Carl Hopper. New Sidewalk A new sidewalk is being put in by the city along the highway on the triangle lot being improved by the Oakland Garden Club. RUBY MEACHAM Seven girls from the upper grade room, with Mrs. Opal Nelson as chaperone, spent Monday night camping out in the Wards Butte area. Dona, Mar go and Macie r.i lis, Peggy Work, Mariam Jacob, Christine Satlcrficld and Sandra Stiaers stayed overnight. Deanna and Dorothy Oteson spent the first day and evening with the group.
