HOLM HOSTS UMPQUA GROVE AT MONDAY PARTY The Umpqua Grove of the Su preme Forest Woodmen Circle was pleasantly entertained Monday night at a party at the home of Mrsv Bella Holm in Hanpy Valley. She was assisted by Mrs. Cather ine Bemetz, Mrs. . Lucy Benson, Mrs. Jessie Thomas and Mrs. Myr tle Glen. Mrs. Velma Albertus in troduced several interesting games. Mrs. Elizabeth Godfrey won a prize. The refreshment ta ble was centered with an outstand ing arrangement of a enrnacopia filled with gaily wrapped packages, each containing notes which were drawn by the guests and stunts performed as forfeit duties. Delicious refreshment.! were served by the committee to a large attendance of Umpqua Grove members. Final plans were made for the next regular meeting Monday night, June 6. This special meet ing will be a Junior graduation and initiation of new members. State manager, Mrs. Zclda K. Puckett from Portland, will be an honored guest. The ralteshment committee for the evening will be Mrs. Velma Albertus. Mrs.- Besse Lounsbury, Mrs. Ann Harlan and Mrs. Gertrude Hess. AU members are urged to attend and he pre pared to ngnt a candle on the wel fare cake. The cast was selected and preparations made for a skit to be enacted at the nex, meeting under the direction of program chairman, Mrs. Josephine Park hurst. RAINBOW GARDEN CLUB INSTALLS OFFICERS AND OBSERVES ANNIVERSARY The Rainbow Garden Uiub held installation of officers and celebrat ed its third anniversary at an all day luncheon party Tuesday. The members met at 11 0 clock at the home of Mrs. Albin Nelson, where the installation of officers was pre sided over by past president, Mrs. Nelson. Beautiful cors.ipos were presented the new officers by Mrs. Mayme Manske. The officers in stalled were Mrs. Nancy Linna, president; Mrs. Neva Conrad, vice president; and Mrs. Oeci Tay lor, secretary. Pictures wvre taken of the ceremony by Mrs. Rosa Hcinbach. The club members 'hsn drove to Ford's, where tncy were served a lovely fried chicken luncheon. The ladies then went on a field trip to a garden in Canyonville, Mrs. Julius Byman has been col lecting rare plants for more than forty years, and her quaint old gardens are most interesting to visit. Those enjoying the day's outing were Mrs. Connie Nelson, Mrs. Vel ma Albertus, Mrs. Jean Tabor, Mrs. Eleanor Shigley, Mrs. May me Manske, Mrs. Dorothy Emert. SOUTH AMERICA TALK GIVEN BY EVANS AT OAKLAND OES MEET The Masons were honored Euesls when Oakland Eastern Star Chap ter met Thursday night at the Ma sonic Hall in Oakland at a six thirty o'clock potluck supper with Mrs. Ada McCall and committee in charge of the dining room. The tables were arranged with beau tiful centerpieces of spring flow ers. Fifty Masons and Eastern Star membois were present. The chapter room was decorated by Mrs. Betty Stearns and Mrs. Lea Carlisle. ' A short business meeting was held after the dinner with worthy matron, irma Cornish, and worthy fiatron, Lloyd Cornish, presiding n the East. Visitors of the eve ning were Frances Martin, worthy matron of North Star Chanter of Drain, and Mr. and Mrs. Moody. After the meeting adiourncd. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Evans of Roseburg gave a very interesting talk on the trip they made to South Amer ica recently, and showed manv beautiful articles which they had brought home. DILLARD CHURCH METS MEETINGS The Woman's Society of Chris tain Service will hold a potluck luncheon meeting Thursday at the home of Mrs. Roy Gordon on Kent Creek, Dillard. The Martha and the Mary Cir cles of the Dillard Methodist Church Woman s Society of Chris tian Service will hold a joint meet ing Friday evening at 8 o'clock. The Martha Circle will present a drama entitled Century of Pro gress" with Mrs. Willard Laur anee, program chairman, direct ing. The Mary Circle, carrying out the program theme, "Status of Women" will give illustrated talks on some of the influential posi tions the modern woman of today will hold. Mrs. F. S. Lansing will be the program leader. ThcTiost esses for refreshments will be Vi vian Burgess, Marie Counts and Mrs. W. T. Johnson. The meetings will both be presided over by the newly installed president, Mrs. Eva Nichols. Sunday the Mary Circle will con duct a "coffee" for a fellowship Set-together following the morn ing service. This is a new idea to acquaint the new members with the older ones in the church. FAIR OAKS LADIES SET FOOD-BAZAAR SALE The Lee Williams' and the Harry Nortons' were hosts at the potluck dinner Tuesday night, when the f air U.iks (.range met at the hall. The tables wore nicely arranged with nineteen members and two visitors, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Frot scher, of Sutherlin Grange enjoy ing the evening. The business meeting was con ducted by the master, Fred Braun inger, and various matters were discussed. Mrs. Lois King, Home Economic Club chairman, announc ed that the club would hold a baked food sale and bazaar Sat urday. June 4. at Lowell's Dress Shop, and asked every one to be sure and have articles in before eleven o'clock. After the meeting, the degree staff practiced. The next meeting will be Tues day, June 14, with Mr. and Mrs. f rank Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pond as hosts. UMPQUA GROVE OFFICERS HAVE MONDAY MEETING An officer's meeting of Unuraua Grove of the Supreme Forest Wood-; men Circle was held Monday , at the home of Mrs. Lucy Benson. Plans were made for ritualistic work for the coining junior grad uation, which is to be held, Mon day evening, June 6, at the Ever green Grange Hall. The drill team members present for rehearsal were Mrs. Beula Gib son, captain; Mrs. Vivian Burgess, Airs. Micelli of Roseburg, died May 20 in Valentine, Ncbr., following a stroke of paralysis. Funeral serv ices were neid in valentine May 22. , From Brookings Mrs. C G. Smith of Brookings is spending this week at Myrtle Creek, where she is caring for her sister-in-law, Mrs. Herbert Anderson, who re cently returned to her home from Mercy Hospital following an oper ation. Murray and family of Roseburg have left for Portland to attend the funeral of Mrs. Mur ray's aunt, Mrs. Mary Turnham, who was killed in an automobile accident during the weekend. Mrs Turnham's sister was also in the car at the time of the accident, but escaped injury. New Soeial Security Laws Would Aid Women WASHINGTON WI-FurUier re vision of social security laws to help women and disabled workers is under study in the House Ways and Means Committee. House Democratic leaders said they hope to put the legislation before the House for action this month. They hope to eliminate the pres ent 65-year age limit for women who would qualify at age 60 or 62 and for disabled workers, who would become eligible for bene fits when they become disabled.
