SALEM if Gov. Paul Patter
son signed Wednesday the bill to
legalize use of radar to catch
speeding motorists.
The new law says Wiat use of
radar doesn't violate the state law

trip to Europe. Clough's sister,

Mother Passes R. Z. Barker
of Melrose left Thursday morning
by bus from fcugene ror Zalisia,
Calif., where he was called by the
sudden death of his mother, Mrs.
Martha Redemer. He will accom
pany the body here for burial in
the Oak Creek Cemetery, where
his father, Henry Barker, is buried.

stein, who has been a patient at
Douglas Community Huspital for
the last week receiving medical
treatment, is reported much bet
ter and is now convalescing at bis
home on Fowler Street.
Back From Vacation Mr. and
Mrs. E. L. Knapp are back at their
home on East Lane Street, follow
ing the last several weeks vaca
tioning in California. While in the
Bay area, they enjoyed 4 visit with
Mrs. Knapp's son-in-law and daugh
ter, as well as with other rela
tives and friends.

of Los Angeles, stopped in Rose
burg this week for a visit with Mr.
and Mrs. William Jebki of the
Lewis Travel Service. Wilmer js

Expected For Weekend Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Matthews are ex
pected to come from Rcedsport for
the weekend. They will be accom
panied by their daughter-in-law,
Mrs. Bill Matthews, and sons, who
have visited there the past week.
The former couple will visit their
son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Richard Buswcil, and
daughter, Debra, and will assist
the Bill Matthews in moving into
their new home on Leland Avenue.

139 Bodies Recovered
In Japanese Disaster

brought up dozens of bodies
most of them of schoolchildren
from the cold waters of the lnlano
sea today to raise to 139 the num
ber of corpses recovered from
Tuesday's fog-shrouded ferry col
lision. Still missing are 24 persons. A
total of 775 were rescued, includ
ing 51 injured.
Long lines of weeping parents
and relatives milled through the
incense-choked halls of a tempo
rary morgue here, attemping to
identify the young victims who
carried no identity papers.
