The bride, Donna Maxine Gibson, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. . . C. Kreps of this city. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Rackley of Roseburg. DAWSON, above, are leaving soon for Manchester, England, on a four-months' vacation, the first they have ever had together. The Dowsons came to Roseburg Nov. 26, 1910, following their marriage Nov. 19, 1910 in Canada. They moved the next summer to Winchester, where Mr. Dowson worked on the Power House. They have resided at their farm-home there ever since. Their trip to England was arranged by the Lewis Travel Service. Carawau Jdonored s$t farewell A pleasant event of Friday eve ning at the Fullerton School was the farewell party given for Mrs. Althea M. Caraway, who is retir ing from teaching after thirty-five years in the schoolroom. The en tire staff of the school honored Mrs. Caraway and presented to her a silver engraved compact. Lyle Eddy, principal, made the presentation. The serving table, decorated with white lace mats, tall yellow candles and bouquets of pansies and iris, was centered by a huge decorated cake with a frosted lit tle, red schoolhouse on top. Mrs. Maurice J- Newland Entertains Bridge Club At Breakfast Tuesday Mrs. Maurice J. Newland enter tained her bridge club at a most enjoyable ten o'clock breakfast Tuesday morning at her attrac tive home in Laurelwood. Camel lias were used for decorations. Covers were placed for Mrs. R. D. Coen, Mrs. Ilarrie W Booth, Mrs. Paul Helweg, Mrs. H. H. Tur ner, Mrs. Chester Morgan. Mrs. L. K. Cornwell and the hostess, Mrs. Newland. High score for the contract bridge play was won by Mrs. Tur ner. John Counts Celebrates Eleventh Birthday At Dinner Party Tuesday. John Counts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hawley Counts, celebrated his 1 1th birthday at a delightful five-thirty o'clock dinner party at his home on Reservoir Avenue Tv.jsday -jve-ning. Gifts were presented to John and the group enjoyed watching TV. Hardings Entertain Duplicate Bridge Club On Thursday Evening Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Harding entertained their duplicate bridge club Thursday evening al their lovely home on East Lane Street. Camellias and tall tapers graced the serving table, while red car nations formed the living room decorations. Enjoying the evcing with Mr. and Mrs. Harding were Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Coen, Mr and Mrs. Alfred C. Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stcver. i Alfred Anderson won the high score and tying for second high were Mrs. Stever, Mr. Harding and Mr. Coen. Cooper was appointed record ing secretary to take the place of Mrs. Ray Zimmerman, who has resigned. High score for the bridge play was won by Mrs. R. Elwood Smith with Mrs. Chester Thomp son winning second high and Mrs. H. C. Stearns, third high. jfartu Mrs. Caraway is a graduate of U. of O. with a Bachelor of Science degree and of Oregon Normal School. She came to the Roseburg schools in September 1923 and did seventh and eighth grade depart mental work for three years at Rose School. When the 6-3-3 sys tem was organized in 1923 she was transferred to Junior High School, where she remained until 1943, at which time she resigned to join Mr. Caraway, who was doing war work in Portland. While in Port land she did substitute work in more than twenty different schools. At the conclusion of the war the Caraways returned to Roseburg, where Mrs. Caraway was assign ed to Rose School in the primary department. She had found, while doing sutstitute work, that she pre ferred the younger children. Since the fall of 1947, s'he has been hap pily engaged working with t h e third graders in Fullerton School. Mrs. Caraway has watched the Roseburg school system grow from a total of forty-five teaeners in 1923 to Its present two hundred and twentv. She has had approxi mately 3,000 students in her class es. Baskets of carnations at the al lar formed the church decorations. Mrs. Carlton Hall sang two selec tions, ending with "I Love You Truly." Candlelighters were Jo line Hubbard and Janey Marier, who wore light green formats. The bride, given in marriage by her father, was beautiful in a white net and lace gown with fingertip veil. She carried a heart-shaoed bouquet of roses. Maid of honor was Rosa Hub hard, sister of the bride, and bridesmaids were Helen Hubbard, sister of the bride, and Georgi anna Heinz, who wore pink, yel low and blue tormais.
