Corsi Charges Refugee Act Complete Failure, Scandal WASHINGTON W Edward : Corsi, who was fired as State De- partment immigration advisor, de j clared Wednesday "the security Bans" headed by Scott McLeod ; has turned the refugee rUef act j i into -a complete tauure ana na tional scandal." i Appearing before a Senate ju diciary subcommittee, Corsi said the program needs "new, compe tent and sympathetic leadership," and should be taken out 'of "the ; bands of the policemen." i Corsi advanced these conten- tions in a statement, as he took I the stand, under oath, to tell his I side of the controversy which has boiled up since he was dismissed i by Secretary Dulles two weeks ' ago. McLeod had just testified that Corsi once told him he intended to run for political office in New York State in 1956. McLeod said he informed Secre tary Dulles. "I thought the secre tary should know about it," he said. "It seemed to me signifi cant to the role he (COrsi) played in the department." Corsi was an advisor .on th department's security chief. Denouncing its present adminis tration, Corsi said: "The President's refugee relief act is in the hands of policemen. "There is not a single top ad ministrator, in the whole adminis tration of the act who has ever had any experience with immi grants or refugees." Corsi has charged that McLeod engineered his dismissal, and de nied he ever informed anyone in the department of alleged inten tions to run for political office. Corsi, a prominent figure hi New York Republican politicis, has made unsuccessful races for the U.S. Senate and for mayor of New York, A critic of present immigration laws, he was under fire from Rep. Walter (D-Pa), co-author ot the existing act, when he was let out. He has denied . Waller's accusa tions of former association with groups later cited as Communist fronts and Dulles in letting him go said no question ot security was involved. Atomic Energy Commission will 1 hold an auction April 25-28 for i some 6 million dollars worth of j surplus items including cement mixers and automobiles, nuts, 1 bolts and 6,000 railroad ties. , there will be chains, cranes and carburetors, tractors, trucks and trailers, safety shoes and clothing, 1,500 metal drums, an unspecified number of quonset huts, plus thousands of other things. The AEC said the auction will be held in the Airway Ballroom at Pasco. The equipment for sale, both new and used, will be avail able for inspection inside the Han ford barricades from April 16 to 24. Busses will leave North Rich land from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to take prospective buyers around. The firm of Ross & Ross of Minneapolis will conduct the auc tion for the Blaw-Knox Co. and Kaiser Engineers, prime contrac tors for AEC construction here. The AEC said B. K. Maxwell ot Kaiser Engineers at Richland has free catalogues of the items for sale.
