Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gardner and family are on vacation in the Midwest, Benson Says Farmers In Price-Cost Squeeze WASHINGTON UB Secretary of Agriculture Benson told Con gress here that farmers are caught in a "price-cost squeeze" that began about four years ago. Benson said "a difficult transi tion period" will continue for a time but added that the longtime outlook for the U.S. farmer is bright. He said the difficulties were caused by shifting from war time to peacetime economy. "If our population continues to grow at the current rate, by 1975 we will need about 30 per cent more agricultural products than we are now producing," he said. Benson was the first witness be fore a Senate appropriations sub committee considering the annual farm money bill. It would provide more than a billion dollars in cash and loans to finance agricultural programs in the next fiscal year. Charles Lee, who suffered a se vere heart attack last week is re ported to be showing steady im provement at Mercy Hospital. Mrs. H. W. Conn and Mrs. Jack Denton spent Thursday in Eugene. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Cox re turned Tuesday from Portland where they spent several days on business.
