He had announced Sunday that he had a letter from die State De partment in reply to his questions about 90 persons who figured in McCarthy's early charges that the department was infested by Communists.. ' ' , The Senate Department letter, signed by Asst. Secretary Thruston B. Morton, noted that none of the various laws or presidential orders dealing with loyalty or security cases "requires that it be proved that a person is a Communist be fore he may be discharged..." Johnston "had asked the depart ment about two groups of persons 10 he said were named publicly by McCarthy before a 1950 Senate subcommittee which investigated his charges, and 80 accused by McCarthy under other circum tances. I I UP On Persons Named As Suspects In '50 roll under a 1951 law which pro videa the basis for the present security program, one was dis charged under the old Truman loy alty program, one was dropped for failing to meet foreign service standards, two were never depart ment employes, two resigned, two were dropped when their assign ments ended and one was trans ferred. As for the 80 in the second cat egory, the department said two were removed under the 1951 law, two resigned during proceedings against them under the old loyalty program, one resigned during pro ceedings against them under the Eisenhower security program, one was removed for personnel tin suitability. Her right arm and shoul der are being treated for second degree burns. Her recovery is re ported to be satisfactory. Receives Treatment Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kobernik of Green spent several days last week in Eugene where the former received medical treatment on his injured arm, It ia reported that so far the operation on his arm will prove successful. He now has to return to - Eugene three times week to take therapy treatments for limbering the muscles and ten dons of the leg and arm. Miss Orenda Mitchell, music di rector of . Dlllard Elementary School, and choir leader of the Dillard Church, was confined to her home for three days last week with intestinal flu. ' Mrs. A. W.
