and boil 20 min. Add cranberries,
sugar, raisins and salt. Boil rapid
ly to jellying point. Add nuts about

recipe as for Conserve, omitting
nuts.
CRAPE JUICE Wash and
stem fresh firm-ripe grapes. Crush
and measure. Add 1 cup water to
each gallon crushed grapes. Heat
10 minutes at simmering tempera
ture. Strain through 4 layers of
cheesecloth.. Let stand 24 houra in
cool place preferably in a re
frigerator. Strain again and add 1
or 2 cups of sugar to each gallon
of juice. Reheat to simmering and
pour hot into not glass jars. Pro
cess 30 minutes at simmering in
hot water bath. ;
CRAPE JELLY - Wash and
stem grapes. Crush and add small
amount of water. Boil IS minutes.
Press through a jelly bag and
strain. Measure juice and heat to
boiling point. For each Cup o
juice, add H cup of sugar Boil
rapidly to jelly stage. Pour into
sterilized jelly glasses. Crystals
frequently form in grape jelly. To
prevent this allow the extracted
juice to stand overnight in a cool
place. Next morning carefully
pour the juice off the sediment in
the bottom of the pan.

sieve to remove seeds. Mix skins,
pulp, sugar, spices and vinegar,
then boil almost to jellying point.
Pour boiling hot into hot glass jar
and seal at once.
GREEN GRAPE MARMALADE
8 cups grapes ;c
8 cups sugar
Wash fruit thoroughly. Stem and
measure. Use only vouna uraoes
since seed must be tender.. Add 2
cups of water and boil until soft.
Add augar and boil to Jellying
point. - Pour boiling hot into hot
glass jar and seal at once.
GREEN TOMATOES TO SUIT:
5 lb. green tomatoes
4 lb. sugar
- 2 lemons Sliced thin ' '
Cut tomatoes into small cubes
or chunks, cover with hot water
and boil for 5 minutes. Drain and
add sugar to tomatoes. Let stand
about 3 hours or longer. Drain, off
syrup and boil rapidly until it
spins a thread when dropped from
a spoon. Add tomatoes and lem
ons. Boil until thick and clear
(about 10 minutes). Pour into hot
glass jars and seal at once.
TOMATO SLICES Wash and
cut 12 firm green tomatoes into
Vi inch slices. Sprinkle with 2 tb.
salt. Let stand 2 hours. Drain.
Boil Vi cup sugar with IVi cups
vinegar for 5 minutes. Pack to
matoes into hot glass jars and

TOMATO & ONION PICKLES I
i 1 gal. green tomatoes
i 6 onions
; Vi cup salt
; 1 tb. mustard seed
) 1V4 cups sugar
.' 1 tb. celery seed .---.(
' 1 tb. horseradish .
! 1 tb. allspice
; 1 tb. peppercorns ,
4 cups vinegar , -
Wash, drain and slice tomatoes.
Peel and slice onions. Mix . with
salt and let stand for about 12
hours. Drain. Add sugar,, -seed,
grated horseradish and spices
(tied in bag) to vinegar. Boil 3
minutes, then cool slightly. Add
vegetables and simmer 20 min
utes. Bring to boil and pack boil
ing hot into hot glass jars. , Seal
at once.
French Fried Onions .
; 1 egg
, 1 cup milk
.; 1 cup all-purpose flour
; V teaspoon salt ,
6 medium onions (about 'i lb.)
Cooking oil for deep frying
Break egg into bowl: add milk,
flour, and salt. Beat with egg beat
er until free from lumps. Peel on
tone; slice about Vi-inch thick;
separate into rings. Dip 5 or 8
rings at a time into batter with
fork; hold over bowl to drain ex
cess batter. Lower into cooking oil
heated to ?75 Deg. F. (hot enough
to brown a 58 inch cube of day
old bread in 30 seconds) and fry
2 to 3 minutes, until golden brown,
turning occasionally. Drain on ab
sorbent paper, sprinkle with salt.
