' ... 'At an afternoon ceremony, Sun day, Dec. 26, at the Presbyterian Church, Miss Belle Doris Russell became the -bride of Cryus John- James Millar officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Katy Russell of Klamath Falls, and was given in marriage by James Pemberton. She wore a white satin gown. A white, satin, pearl studded Juliet cap ' head dress held In place her finger tip illusion veil. She carried a bou .quet of white carnation with a lavender orchid center. Matron of honor, a sister, Myr tle .Chamberland, wore a frock of grey, iaille, covered with a net skirt She carried white carnations with white satin streamers. The bridesmaids also sisters of the bride, Mrs. Bertha Cooley and u -, E "' MISS VERNA PALMER, of Grants Pass recently become the bride of Sam Shoemaker at a beautiful single ring ceremony at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grants Pass. A wedding of interest during the Christmas holidays was that of Miss Verna Palmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward H. Marsh of Grants Pass, and Sam. J. Shoe maker; son of Mrs. S. J. Shoe maker of this city. The single ring ceremony was read Sunday, Dec. M in the Bethany Presbyterian Church, Grants Pass by the Rev. J. A. Marquam. Large baskets of chrysanthe mums, holiday greenery and poin settia formed the background for th afternoon ceremony. White ti pers flanked the altar and were lighted by the two ushers, Bruce Lattin and Lyle C. Perkins, both of Medford. - The bride selected for her wed ding a ballerina-length gown of blush pink satin. Fashioned with i full skirt and bodice of pink lace; tiny seed pearls outlined he neckline. She wore a pearl tiara and pink accessories, and carried a spray bouquet of itephanotis and white carnations centered with 'yi ; v.,,:.,,.; . -' 7 i, .... kWV Mrs. Helen Caldwell, were attired in frocks of torquoise and light lavendar and carried white carna tions with white satin streamers. A twin-brother, Bill Russell, was best man. . Candlelighters were Sonya Car lock, and Helen McGuire. Flower girl was Kathy Adams, wearing white organdy with flow ered bodice. She carried white carnations. Ushers were John J. Cooley and Robert J. Caldwell Jr. . Miss Nancy Fromdahl sang "Be cause" and "The Lord's Prayer" accompanied by Miss Joan Phil lips who played the traditional wedding march. The bride's sister, Mrs. Kenneth Winterbottom of Grants Pass was matron of honor and Evelyn Mc Collough of Ashland was brides maid. Both wore identical princess styled gowns of green chrome spun taffeta, fashioned with full skirts and off -he - shoulder neck lines. They carried spray bou quets of red carnations and wore similar flowers in their hair. Best man for the bridegroom was Frank J. VanDyke of Med ford. Ushers were. Pete Smith of Grants Pass, Mr. Lattin and Mr. Perkins. ' ; ' ' Miss Nancy Bullard of Grants Pass, cousin of the bride, sang "Tenderly" and "Through the Years," accompanied at the organ by Mrs. J. Schiffcrstein of Grants Pass. The latter played traditional wedding music for the ceremony. . A reception honored the wedding bride, wore pink jersey and a cor sage of white roses. . ; ' ; A reception was held following the ceremony in the church ' par lor. The four tiered cake, sur rounded by white bells with deli cate pink trim, topped by a bride and groom, was cut and, served by Mrs. Roy Crain. Punch and coffee was served by Mrs. A. W. McGuire and daughter, June. Barbara McGuire was in charge of the guest book and the many lovely gifts received were display ed by Miss June McGuire. ' For traveling the bride chose a blue wool suit and white acces sories and an orchid corsage. Aft er a weeks trip to San Francisco the. couple are now at home to their firends at 254614 North Steph ana Street, Roseburg. ., to "vr f party in Bethany House of - the church. Decorations for the wed ding and reception were arranged by Mrs. Dorothy Billingslea of Grants Pass who also entertained out-of-town guests at her home on VanDyke Place prior to -the cere mony. - The i three-tiered wedding cake surrounded by pale pink rosebuds was decorated with tiny white wed ding bells and pink rosettes and topped by pink rosebuds. The cake centered a round' table covered with white satin and topped by a net overskirt caught at intervals by pink rosebuds. The wedding caice was cut by Mrs. Walter Allen of Winchester, cousin of the bride groom. , The service table was lighted with red tapers and centered with red carnations. Mrs. Dave Allen of Grants Pass poured coffee and Mrs. Bertram Shoemaker of Win chester presided at the punch bowl. In charge of the guest book was Mrs. Bruce Lattin of. Medford. Seventy two members and guests attended the Roseburg Woman's Club meeting Tuesday to hear the program "Living With Our worw neignoors, arranged by Mrs. V. J. For her wedding trip to Brook ings the bride wore a dress of winter white with black topcoat and accessories. Following several days at coast points the couple re turned to the Mioemaker summer home at Winchester on the North Umpqua before leaving for Los Angeles to make their home. Mrs. Shoemaker has been em ployed by the Pacific Telephone and Teiegrapn to. in' Grants pass. Mr. Shoemaker wno is in govern ment service, was graduated from the University of Oregon Law tchool and served in the U. S. Air orce in England in World War Two. ' , " ' i r m A GOLDEN WEDDING anniversary "open 'house" honored two pioneer Oregonians recently when friends visited ot the home of Mr., and Mrs. Levi Bunch In Coqullle, honoring Mr, and Mrs. Samuel W. Stormer. Mr. and Mrs. Starmer -were married at Myrtle Point on Christmas Day, 1904. Following their marriage they made their home at Roseburg where Mr, Starmer was employed by the Southern Pacific railroad for 20 years. He resigned to serve os; Douglas County sheriff for seven years. He held this position until he accepted the office of commandant of the Oregon State soldiers home at Roseburg, with Mrs'. Starmer serving as matron of the establishment. When the veterans admin istration took over the sodiers home and built the new hospital, Mr. Starmer was appointed labor foreman which position he held for 13 years until he retired in 1945.
