The Jane Osgood Circle of the First Baptist Church met in the home of Esther GiUiland in the Kohlhagen Apts. with Mrs. Fran cis Crawford, chairman, conduct ing the meeting. MAUREEN NEUBERGER TO BE SPEAKER AT LUNCHEON SATURDAY "A Former Teacher Goes to the Legislature" has been selected by Maureen Neuberger as her subject when she speaks to members and guests of the local branch of the American Association of University Women Saturday. The meeting is a luncheon at 1 p.m. at the Ump qua Hotel. Mrs. Neuberger Is well qualified to speak on the topic since she is chairman of the education commit tee of the Oregon legislature, is a member of the legislative com mittee of the Portland branch of AAUW and has taught in Portland schools. A graduate of Oregon Col. lege of Education and the Univer sity of Oregon, the guest speaker is a member of Theta Sigma Phi, women's journalism honorary, and claims free lance writing and photography as two of her hob bies. Mrs. Neuberger is a frequent speaker before such groups as PTA's, AAUW branches and League of Women voters and was the first woman speaker to appear before the Chamber of Commerce in Vancouver, B.C. The October meeting is sponsor ed by the legislative committee of the local branch under the chair manship of Mrs. William Green. Roseburg "members of Delta Kap pa Gamma, teacher's honorary, have been invited to attend the lun?heon. All reservations for the affair must be in to Mrs. Roy Byrd by Thursday. PRESBYTERIAN WOMAN'S SOCIETY TO HEAR - BOOK REVIEW THURSDAY An especially interesting pro gram is in store for the Presby terian Woman's Society Thursday afternoon because Mrs. Edwin G, Vnune will review the book. "Vm Church of Our 'Fathers," by Ro land Bainlon. Mr. Bainton is pro fessor of Ecclesiastical History at Yale University. His book is "rich succession of stories out of the pages of history; a fascinating pageant unfolded from the earliesl times to the times in which we live." Mr. Bainton also wrote the book "Here I Stand," from which the motion picture, "Martin LutJh; er" was made. The excellance of Mrs. Young's reviewing is well known to many who have heard former reviews elsewhere. Those who have not heard her before, will have a treat in store for them. She is, of all people in these parts, especially qualified to give an account of the author of this book because she knew him when they both attend ed Whitman College at Walla Walla. A dessert' luncheon will be served in the parlors of the Edu cation building at 1:30 p.m. and Mrs. W. M. Campbell, president, will conduct a bijiof business ses sion. All women of the church are most cordially invited to enjoy the pleasant afternoon. Moves Mr. and Mrs, Larry Wright recently moved to Laguna Beach, Calif., to make their home. Mrs. Wright was formerly super intendent of the local ground ob server corp. Studies Here Miss - Edna Staveland of the University of Ore gon school of nursing is in Rose burg this week to work in the County Health Dept. office. Miss Staveland will graduate next June. During her stay here she is becoming acquainted with borne and family situations in regard to nursing; Airplane Ride Frani de Boers, exchange student from the Neth erlands who is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Don Auer currently, was taken for a plane ride over Doug las County 'undav afternoon. Frank von Borstel, county 4-H agent pi loted the craft and pointed out in terest spots. Also on the trip were Auer and his son, Byron. The ride lasted about an hour and was a little bumpy due to the weather. Back From Vacation Mr. and Mrs, L. W. Josse and the latter's sister, Mrs. Velle Broadway, are back at their homes in Roseburg, following ! weeks' vacation trip. They went east to Niagara Falls and then went north through Canada and came down the New England states to Boston. They visited in New York City, Provi dence, R.I.i and in Washington, D. C, where they were entertained by John Rast, former Roseburg resident. In Williamsburg, Va.( tney visuea Attorney &. xnieie, a former Roseburg resident, who is practicing law mere ana who also has a home in Florida. They went on through Florida to Key West and returned through the southern states, stopping over in New Or leans and coming home through the Grand Canyon. They experi enced a number of hurricanes on the trip and while they report a fine vacation, they are still glad to be back in Oregon.
