Here's How You Know
It's The Latest Style
By DOROTHY ROE
AP Women's Editor
Here are the things to look for
when you go shopping for that new
fall suit or dress. These are the
outfits that you will find in your
favorite specialty shop or depart
ment store, come fall. These are
the top styles already ordered by
your local buyers, and now in
process of manufacture in Naw
York's teeming garment center.
1 Tho bloused top dress. Tilis
is the headline silhouette for fall,
following the corseted midriff look
of last season. It's an easy, -e-laxed
silhouette, which gives you
room to breathe, doesn't reveal
every bulge of figure, is easy to
wear. You'll fin:', it in all fabrics,
usually teamed with a slim skirt.
2 The "blouson" suit or cos
tume. This has a bloused jacket
which ends at the waistline with
a belt, is worn with matching Mini
dress or skirt, comes in handsome
tweeds and flannels, dark worsted
and new blends of Dacron, worst
ed and silk.
3 The sailor collar. Tills is a
new and important note for fall.
found on dresses, suits and coats,
sometimes even in fur.
4 The sack iacket. This is a
loose, boxv. short jacket whicd
may be semi-fitted in front, loose
in back,
5 The barrel coat. This Is
rounded above, slightly tapered at
the hemline, loose and comforta
ble, smartest when worn slitfhtly
shorter than the skirt or dress
beneath.
6 The middy. This is the loose,
schoolgirl garment that has been
coming back to favor periodically
for two generations. A pullover
with no waistline, worn with a slim
skirt, shown in high-color - flan
nels . and lerseys. often wit ft a
sailor collar.
7 The low, open necklin for
dresses. A flattering, feminine
decolletage achieved in many
ways, sometimes with low, flat or
standaway collars.
8 The fur collard or fur lined
suit. An eld favorite newly popu
lar for this fail. Often reversible.
9 The costume, this consists of
wool dress and matching jacket
or full-length eoat, and is the most
important single fashion of the
season. Dress usually is low-necked,
short-sleeved, sufficiently dr9S
sy for after-5 wear, permitting the
wearer to go from office or shop
ping trip to cocktails and dinner,
suitably dressed when she re
moves her jacket.
10 Combinations of satin - and
twetd. A top fall fashion. Some
times done with satin linings and
weskits combined with tweed
suits. Sometimes done by adding
satin hat and blouse to a tweed
suit.
11 The doll dress. This is the
little-girl fashion so popular this
summer, carried on for fall in
dainty, lacy, white or pastel dance
dresses.
12 Wide collars on coats, suits
and blouses.
Age 'Improves' Tone
Of 100-Year-Old Organ
NEW BERN, N. C. UPV-A 100-year-old
organ in use here orig
inally was bought for $900 in 1854.
Sixty-two years later is was hit
by lightning. The congregation of
the First Presbyterian church here
thought it was ruined and sold it
for $125 to the Negro First Baptist
ehtirch, which repaired it. Church
members said the organ's tone

Tall Drinks Are Wonderful For Summertime
A tall, cool drink is wonderful
on a hot, summer day. Even
a short one is good especially if
it's served in your very prettiest
glass a hollow-stemmed, cham
pagne glass for instance. Here are
three ideas for refreshing sum
a party cooling as a breeze right
off the ocean.
Set your table to match the
mood if you decide on Peach Su
preme a few rosy-tinged peaches
nestling on glossy green leaves
will be centerpiece enough. If
Cherry Frappe is your choice, then
let Cherry Ripe be your theme
with clusters of the lovely-rich-hued
fruit to adorn your setting.
Or perhaps Grape Freeze is your
favorite. Thread the luscious pur
ple beauties on a glimmering,
transparant straw and let the
modest little, white grape be the
coolest of decoration.
Any one you choose it's good
it's delicious. Does more or you
than quench your thirst. It delights
the eye and helps take the beat out
of July.
When H comes to preparing
your drinks, you'll take your
fresh-frozen juices right out of the
freezing compartment of your re
frigerator. When you store them
properly, they'll do right by you
giving you all the full flavor and
vitamin value of the fresh fruit. A
blender is a help for mixing your
drinks but a rotary beater will
do nicely.

BAGHDAD, Iraq Ml In the days
when Scheherazade related the
fabulous tales of the Thousand and
One Nights, Baghdad was a syn
onym for romance and gaiety. To
day the traveler's first impression
of Baghdad is a filthy, dusty city,
hot in summer and too cold for
comfort in winter.
The Caliph's days are recalled
mainly by the fact that Baghdad's
main street is named Harun Al
Rashid. But the street itself is a
sad sight. Flanked by rows of ugly
arcades painted a sickly blue, it
runs along the Tigris between rows
of ramshackle buildings. The struc
tures are old but not antique, un
comfrotable but not quaint.
Even the flies can't stand the
Baghdad summers. As spring fades
away, the heat kills them.
The real "hot spell" here falls
in late Jury and August, when tem
peratures soar to 120 for as much
as two weeks at a time.
Older inhabitants go underground
during the day and come out at
night. At night, they carry beds
to the rooftops where the family
sleeps.
To see something of the almost
hidden charm of modern Bagh
dad, it is necessary to get away
from Harun Al Rashid Street In
either the very new or the very
old sections of town.
Looking back from the new sec
tion to the old city, you can get
a glimpse of the glory that Bagh
dad once knew. Because the unsta
ble ground forbids buildings of
more than two or three stories, the
skyline is dominated by the domes
and minarets of many Persian
type mosques.
Returning to the old city along
the Tigris, you can get a good look
at the way ancient Baghdad
bought and sold in the colorful
and noisy bazaar district. Like
most oriental market places,
Baghdad's bazaar is a labrvrinlh
of narrow covered streets.
