Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Hancock of Ocean Lake were weekend guests at the Christian Hancock home. Mr. and Mrs. Hancock returned to Ocean Lake with the Oscar Hancocks for a short visit. Mrs. Ariel Hubbard received word late Monday evening that her father, Herbert Moon, had suf. fered a heart attack. Mrs. Hub bard left early Tuesday for Pleas ant Hill to visit her father. Buddy Adamo is attending the Edison summer school in Eugene for a six-weeks course. Mrs. Lillie Garrison and son, Dean, and Mrs. Jim Adamo and sons spent last week visiting Mr. and Mrs. Mike Cashman and fam ily m Tacoma, Wash. Terry Ad amo returned to Elkton with them after a week's vacation in Wash ington. Gene Anderson is attending sum. mer school at the University of Oregon. Mrs. Jeannine McClatchy and Jons left last Wednesday evening for a two weeks vacation in Ta coma, Wash. Harry Weatherly of Cottage Grove was a Sunday guest at the parental Norman Weatherly home. Dauilas County Home have been many and varied within the past few days. Mr. and Mrs. George B. Ttooke and their granddaughter, Linda, spent some time visiting Pha Nich ols and Mrs. Annie Critchfield last week. Former Nun Visits Mrs. Alice Hodges of Roseburg, who was at one time head nurse at the home, came in for a visit with her many friends Friday. Mrs. Hodges and her family were traveling to Missouri to attend the graduation of her son. In Nevada, they had an accident which com pletely wrecked their car, but did no damage to the occupants. Harry Carmichael, who is bar ber at the home, brought his wife and son, Harry Jr., to visit the residents of the home Friday eve ning, i Hilda Terho has accepted a po sition in the laundry department Glenna Titus, custodian of the home, spent Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jim Bel lows, in Roseburg. In the after noon, Mrs. Titus brought her daughter, Mrs. Bellows, and Bren da, Sharon Thus. Mrs. Henry Goertzen, and daughter, Susie, and her aunt, Mrs. John Leggett, of Greensburg, Kan., on an inspec tion tour of the home. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Gee, par ents of Glenna Titus, have gone to Kansas for a two-week visit with relatives and former neighbors. Portlander Here Mrs. F. C. Gurnee, a friend of Mrs. Lillian Davis, is visiting her Oakland Pastor Takes Vacation By EDITH DUNN The Rev. James Denham will be guest speaker at the Oakland Community Presbyterian Church in the absence of Dr. Homer M. Noble, who is on vacation. The Rev. Mr. Denham is a former Oakland minister, and more re cently has been a missionary, first in uuu ana later in Brazil. Vacationers Return Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Copeland took a vacation trip to California through Donner Pass to Virginia City and Reno, Nev., through Ba ker to Portland, and home. Mrs. Kenneth Copeland cared for their children while they were away. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Copeland, Kent and Carol, and Mrs. Charles McMahan drove to Myrtle Creek Sunday to have dinner with Bart Copeland. Mr. and Mrs. John dwanU took a vacation trip recently to Mt Lassen, Calif., and back up the coast. Women Sing The Mennonites, who are usually represented by a male quartet singing in the halls, were replaced by a group of young women who sang last Thursday. Other visiters to the borne re cently, were Alvia Wetherall, Ru bie Bloom, Oliver Johnson, Jim Dunwoodie, Mrs. Eva Gordon, Lucy Myers, Ina Farnsworth, Ruby Baker, Alice Mann, Ross Hutchinson and Gladys Peters. Martha Cooper spent a day last week with her niece, Mrs. Charles Cooper and family. Mrs. Jean DeVore and two daughters are leaving next Thurs day for a week's visit with her mother at John Day. Mrs. DeVore is staff secretary. Daughter Visits Mrs. Anna Collins had a pleas ant surprise Tuesday morning when her daughter, Mildred Bing ham, stopped between busses to spend the time with her mother. Mrs. Bingham went on to Med ford to visit her husband, who is at Camp White, and then to Trail to spend a short time with hur brother-in-law and sister, Bob and Mabel Dawson. Mrs. Bingham stopped again Saturday on her way back to work in Eugene. Mrs. Earl Phillips and small franddaughter stopped in Wednes ay for a brief chat. She will re turn from her vacation July 6. Dorothy (Phimer) MeCaden arid husband, Richard, of Eugene spent Father's Day with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Plum er, of Roseburg. The couple were married at Newport May 15, and have been living in Eugene since ine wending. Mrs. Winnie Lamb, who went to California for medical care about two months ago, has returned U take up her duties as nurse ag:in. Edna Elders spent several days recently visiting relatives and friends. Among them were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Allen of Rose burg, and W. W. Wilkens, her brother, of Sutherlin. FOX Plans are underway to take as many as possible of the members of the Glendale Boy Scout troop to the scout camp at Siltcoos Lake the latter part of July. The Kc bekali Lodge has donated $15 lo pay the way of one member of the troop. An attempt is being made to get several more adults tc make the trip so that the scouts may take a five-day camping trip along the Rogue River crly in July. Proprietors of the Black Bar Lodge have offered to let the bova camp on their grounds on one night of tfie outing. Lien Practice The Glendale Lion's Club is hold ing softball practice on the grade school field at 6:30 p.m. on Mon day and Friday afternoons. A vacation church school will be held at the Olivet Presbyterian Church in Glendale July 6 through 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Classes will be held for all ages from 4 through 14. The theme of the school is "The Church." The school will be directed by the Rev. R. G. Hall of Rosoburg. CIO Urges Additional . Social Security Coverage WASHINGTON I The Con gress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) urged the Senate Wednes day to go further than the House in expanding social security cover age. Joseph Childs, speaking for the CIO, asked the Senate Finance Committee ia prepared testimony to boost the ceiling on earnings taxes to $6,000 a year, instead ol the $4,200 voted by the House and the present $3,600. The current tax rate, levied on both workers and employers, Is 2 per cent. Childs, a vice president of the CIO United Rubber Workers, also urged: 1. Inclusion of physicians and mi grant farm workers in the social security system. 2.
