NORTH DOUGLAS GRANGE PRESENTS GIFTS TO MRS. OPAL NELSON The North Douglas Grange held a regular meeting Friday evening with Master Alvin Allen in charge. During the lecturer's hour the H. E. chairman, Mabel Sowles presented a skit. A wheelbarrow was wheeled in by Gene Meacham with Jimmy Nelson riding inside dressed as a baby and brought over to the lecturer. Opal nelson who was presented with a pink and blue shower. Everyone who brought baby pictures of themselves had them numbered and everyone guessed on who was who. Dorothy Sands j guessed all of the pictures cor I rectly. It was also decided for each family to give fifty cents to buy records for the teen agers dance club. Refreshments were sold before and after the meeting. CAMAS VALLEY CLUB ENTERTAINED AT THRUSH HOME . Mr. and Mrs. Dave Thursh en tertained the canasta club at their home Saturday night. DRAIN STUDY CLUB TO PRESENT ROSEBURG SYMPHONY ON SUNDAY The members of the Drain Study Club feel fortunate to be able to bring to Drain the Roseburg Sym phony Orchestra, organized three years ago under the direction of. Wendell jonnson, wno is sun me conductor, Sunday, April 4, at 2:30 p m. at the Drain High School Au ditorium. A small admission price will be made. The program consists of classi cal numbers, popular tunes and even the Little German Band at intermission. The members of the club have planned this program of beautiful music to please the community. Mr. Johnson is also choral in structor at Roseburg Senior High School. Tom Hall, Senior High Rand director, plays first flute. He has had several years in or chestral work. It is impossible to comment on all 40 of the outstand- ng musicians in tne orcnesira. Some of the Drain residents know William Jelski, who plays first oboe, and who was formerly a member of the Portland Sympho ny. His wife, whose parental name is Leiken, is a former resident of Drain. PASS CREEK HEU PLANS CARNIVAL The Pass Creek Unit of the Home Extension met Wednesday at the North Douglas Grange Hall with eight members present. Mrs Elaine Cline gave a demonstra tion on the care of walls, wood work and floor finishes. Chairman Betty Thompson ap pointed committees for a carni val to be held Saturday night May 1 at the Grange hall. Those ap pointed were: bingo, Gnevieve Gordinecr; dart game, Clara Black; fish pond, Mildred Rohr cr; refreshment, Elaine Cline; pop and candy, Priscilla Walker; used funny books, Florence Deeds; pub licity. DAV MEMBERS GIVE GALLOPING BREAKFASTS Florence Nightingale Tent No. IS held a regular meeting March 26th at the K. P. Hall on Rose Street, with Edna Langley presid ing. Plans were made for the visit of the department president, Irene Lawhcad, of Portland April 9. Many things were discussed in cluding the sky watch. It was de cided that those that had the time and could stand a watch, to con tact Mrs. Wright. A report was made on the gal loping breakfasts being made to raise money to help with the Na tional Convention being held in Portland in September. Seven la dies called at the homes of Sisters Langley and Gardner for a break fast. The next meeting will be April 9 at the KP hall with the depart ment president making her official visit. Preceding the meeting there will be a 6:30 dinner at the Rose Hotel. Alt members are urged to be present. DEMONSTRATION GIVEN BY MRS. BEAVER AT GARDEN VALLEY CLUB The Garden Valley Garden Club met at the home of Bertha Bay liss. Helen Lehne had charge of the program. Mrs. Paul Beaver of the Roseburg Town and Country Garden Club demonstrated sever al all green arrangements. She also displayed some ceramics. At the regular meeting Thursday eve ning April 1, new oficers will be installed. Entertainment wil fea ture a comic skit called "Poky Huntus." The light drama will be presented by members of the faculty and friends. The first grade mothers will serve refresh ments. The Tri City PTA will give their postponed "Butterfly Ball" this Saturday evening April 3. Pro ceeds from the benefit dance will be used to sponsor the school milk program and give aid to'the cub scout troop that (he PTA sponsors. The dance will be held in the school gym. YONCALLA BIBLE CLASS RAISES FUNDS TO FINISH NEW BUILDING The adult Bible class of the Yoncalla Methodist Church spon sored a chicken pie dinner in the fireplace room of the church Fri day evening. The tables and mantle were beautifully decorat ed with daffodils, flowering quince and sprays of plum blossoms ar ranged bv Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Kirklie. The class netted $100, which will go towards finishing their new building. Several members of the WSCS of the Methodist church motored to Myrtle Creek last week, where they attended the sub district meeting of the WSCS. Those at tending from here were Mrs. Jl lean Pontius, Mrs. R. W. Knight, Mrs. Elmer Currier, Mrs. Tom Wallace and Mrs. Eldon Lee.
