GEORGE EDES At an open house meeting Mon day, the Lion's Club presented Yoncalla with a new building lor the uround observer corps. Ed Bloomquist gave the build ing, located on the Hayhurst Road in West Park addition to Mrs. Bernice Radtke. director of the post, with the understanding that when the urouna Observer corps ership will revert back to the Li ons Club. All the lumber used in the build ing was donated by the Yoncalla Lumber Co. Electric heat will be used inside the 8 x 10 building. Mrs. Kadtke reports that 13 per sons regularly serve at the post, and there is great need for others to volunteer. All plans seen or heard at this post are reported by phone, direct to the Air Defense Filter Center. At present there are 23 posts in Douglas County. Regu lar observers are Mrs. Walter Meier, Mrs. Vernon Goodrich, Mrs. H. W. Dodd. Mrs. Ben Metz Mrs. Virl Rodgers, Mrs. Ben Em ery, Mrs. Waldo fond, Mrs. Noble Snider, Mrs. Harold Rogers, Mrs. Sumner Brawn, Mrs. Roy Dodd Sr., Nanice Applegate and Jon Cowan. Neari Completion Work has been completed on the titration plant of the new Yon calla water system. The new res ervoir tank is now being painted, This will complete the new $100,000 city water project. Mrs. .Tom HoUamon has pur chased the Earl LeTourneau borne i in Scotts Valley. The Scotts Valley 4-H Electric Club met Jan. 25 to finish its tool chests. At the next meeting. Feb. 8, the group will start work on electric splices. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mason of Corvallis, spent the weekend vis iting at the parental Harvey Cock era m home on Red Hill. Attends Meet Sidney Lasswell was one of 12 guests of the Lions Club of Cot tage Grove who were honored at charter members meeting Thurs day evening. The Cottage Glove charter was granted 30 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Karl Hummel spent the weekend visiting rela tives in Sacramento, Calif. Air. and Mrs. Kussei wamsley spent several days last week vis iting relatives in Walla Walla, Wash. They returned home Wed nesday. Mr. "and Mrs. Homer Kruse and Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Cabaness spent Sunday at Reedsport. Miss Lois Parks spent the week end in Portland where she attend ed the M.Y.F. Sing Shop of the Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. George Marsters of Roseburg visited at the Otto Sehieman home over the weekend. Mrs. Bob McEwen and family spent several days last week in Portland where they visited Mrs. McEwen's father, who is seriously ill. Ewen drove there Friday to return home with his famiy. Salary Committee Meets At Winston By MRS. TED PETERSON A salary committee meeting, with citizens, teachers, school board members and administra tors attending, was held last Tues day evening in the library room at Douglas High School in Brock- way. Purpose of the meeting was to set up a salary schedule for School District lie, which includes Doug las High, Dillard, Lookingglass and renmiie scnoois. ' At the committee's first meet- ing it was decided to obtain more information regarding salaries paid in other school districts be. fore salary adjustments are made. More meetings will be scheduled for study of the situation follow ing receipt of additional statisti cal reports. Committee members attending were: Louis ruiierton, chairman; William Schell. Herbert North- craft, C. C. Fosback, Paul Dodd, Thomas Gennette, Arthur Fish, Virgil Vance, Ralph Fisher, Paul Hult and administrative advisors, Charles Langsev, David Potter and William R. Bromley. In Movie Dillard School Coach Hollis Hill appeared in the movie "49th Man" snowing last week at trie ceneua Theater. Hill was aboard the U.S.S. Guittarro, a navy subma rine, when the movie was filmed off San Diogo, Calif. Carol and Joan Markham, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. John Markham, are M at tneir nome on Rose Street with severe cases of the mumps. Mr. and Mrs. Frank True and daughter, Susie, are moving this week into their new nome on Lookingglass Road in Winston. Housoguests at the Vera Nuestcl home in Winston Section the past week have been Mrs. Nuestel's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stearns, from Ocean Lake. Barbara Johnstone, 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Johnstone, has been discharged from Mercy Hospital in Roseburg. Miss Johnstone is reported to be imnrovine from an illness which was first believed to be polio. Mrs. Helen Duncan drove to Grants Pass Wednesday afternoon for an overnight business trip. Mrs. Duncan is owner of Duncan's Poultry Farm in Winston Section.
