Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bender, Mr. and Mrs. .Steve Inda, and Mr. and Mrs. "Lloyd Cornish. Helen Cass was elected news roorter. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wahl and Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Beiiman were accepted as mem bers of the club. The club plans to meet the first and third Saturdays of the month. Those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Steve Inda, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Mr. Evans, acconv panied by his wife, took a year to tour in South America, and brought back a very interesting collection ot native workmanship. He brought trunkloada of curios to Days Creek Thursday evening and showed them as a finale to his talk. Duiing the regular business sea sion Mrs. Marlen Yoder, reporting for the committee on the talent show, listed the preliminary plans tor tne snow, wrucn will be neia March 12, at 8 p.m. The Days Creek Sohool will hold an assem bly prior to that date to determine the best selections, one from each room in the grade school and two from the high school. The Tiller Grade School is being invited to participate on tne same basis. The rest of the selections will be chosen from entrants from the various social clubs and orgamza tions in the Days Creek-Tiller area and irom individuals. Those wish ing to be on the program should contact Mrs. Yoder or Mrs. Law rence Michaels, by telephone or in person, before March 5. The aim of the talent show, ac cprding to PTA President Mrs. Burl Babb, is a social evening and no admission will be charged. Contributions will be accepted at the door to make up prizes. There will be a grand prize of $10; a first prize of $5 and a second prize of $2 in each of three categories: children, adults, and groups. Mas ter of ceremonies for the evening will be school superintendent, Mar len Yoder. Three judges will be selected by the committee after all entrants' names are in. . The treasurer's report showed that an average of 96 children were participating in the PTA sponsored hot-lunch program in December. Mrs. Harvey also an nounced the Mothers' March will be from 6:15 to 7:15 Jan. 28. She requested that those who wish to donate, turn on their porch or yard lights so the mothers will stop. Coach Harvey announced a don- key basketball game Jan. 23. The two teams will be made up of men from Tiller and Days Creek. There maybe a preliminary game between town women and the hiuh school eirls. Fortv-five Der cent of the proceeds will go to the school lor new warm-up jackets for the high school basketball team. The group was divided into four dlscussionaL groups to talk over future programs for the PTA, with several good Ideas resulting. The room count was won by the first itrade with 17 parents present. New members Eleanor Richter. Mo- zelle Welch and Juanita Oilman were welcomed and preseatcd with a corsage by Beth Gordon. Helen Buell. topic mistress, dis tributed assorted furrent topics to all members as subjects for talks which thev gave. New officers were elected as follows: Daisy Fox, president; wuma Tynan, vice president: r.i- ma Schell, secretary; Frances Holteen. treasurer. Toastmistress for the evenina was Elma Schell. Juanita Gilman gave 1ier ice-breaker speech with Virginia Laurance as critic. Two other speeches, one by uieta Cal lahan and the other by Zilpha Mc Allister completed the program. Eleanor Richter was timekeep er and Daisy Fox was evaluator. Guests were Mrs. Mahoney and Mrs. Sunms. The next meeting will be an in stallation dinner. CALAPOOIA 4H CLUB MEETS AT CLUBHOUS- The Calapooia Rustlers 4H Club held its first meeting of the year Friday at the clubhouse. During the business session, the group de cided to make a scrapbook for 1954. They plan to have a live stock judging team and will se cure training material. Sugges tions were made on how to im prove the county fair and the ani mals which will be shown. ESTHER CIRCLE MEETS IN OAKLAND WEDNESDAY Esther Circle of the Oakland Presbyterian Church met Wednes day at the Parish Hall. Mrs. Ver non Little Had charge of tne les son. Mrs. Winncford Runge was hostess. Members present were: Mrs. Lit tle, Mrs. Runge, Mrs. Isabel! Christ, Mrs. Betty Early, Mrs. Lu- cretia Ross and Mrs.-Lois Cherry. Visitors were: Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. Grace Carstenson, Mrs. Leah Carlisle and Mrs. Edith Dunn. NORTH DOUGLAS GRANGE HAS POTLUCK SUPPER North Douglas Grange held a politick supper at 6:30 Friday eve ning jt the Grange Hall. The men worked on the kitchen that evening with a number of the men re turning the next day to finish re modeling. The next meeting of the Grange will be held Friday, Jan. 22. It is to be a kitchen shower for the Grange with members to bring things to be used ib the kitchen. ROYAL NEIGHBORS HAVE PARTY Royal Neighbors Club had a party Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Coats. After games were played, re freshments were served to: Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hayman, Mrs. In- man, Mrs. K. J. Kcele. OAKLAND CHURCH WOMEN TO MEET FRIDAY Associated Women of the Oak land Community Presbyterian Church will meet at the parish Hall Friday at 2 p.m. SUTHERLIN WSCS " MEETS THURSDAY Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Sutherlin Methodist Church met Thursday in the social rooms of the church with Mrs. O. L. Torrev presiding. Mrs. Orville French led the de votional which were articles on the New Year and each member gave ideas for the new year. Money was voted to be sent to Seward General Hospital in Al aska for surgical supplies, and to Trinity College, Singapore, for books. A letter was read from a missionary in the Philippine Is lands thankng tne wscs tor the Christmas box sent them. It was decided to have a baked food sale Saturday, Feb. 13 and Mrs. H. V. Church was appointed chairman. The next meeting will be Jan. 28 in the social rooms of the church starting with a noon pot- luck luncheon. Mrs. Leslie Glea- son will head the devotionals and Mrs. Harold Jones will be pro gram obairman. LEGION AUXILIARY MEETS IN YONCALLA Yoncalla American Legion Aux iliary Unit No. 174 met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph' Lath am Tuesday. Mrs. Roy Dodd Jr., and Mrs. Russell Loyd will take cookies, cigarettes and magazines to the Veterans Hospital, Rose burg, Friday Jan. 29. Members and friends are to leave these ar ticles at the Dodd home on or be fore Jan. 28. Following the meeting, the mem bers went to the new home of one of their members, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Russell of Scotts Valley, for their open house. The next meeting will be a pot luck dinner at Halo Hall, Jan. 26. The next business meeting will be at the Harold Rogers home in West rark Feb. 9.- TOASTMISTRESS CLUB WILL INSTALL OFFICERS The Roseburg Toastmistress Club met Wednesday. June Kelso was in charge of table topics and Billie Walker was toastmistress for the evening. She introduced two speakers, Haze! Jameson and Dor is DeGuire. New officers to be installed Jan. 27 are: Billie Walker, president; Charlotte Domytt, vice president: Hazel Jameson, treasurer, and Doris DeGuire, secretary. Margery. Rinehart was a guest. HOOKED RUG CLUB MEET IN CAMAS VALLEY Camas Valley Hooked Rug Club has resumed activity again with the first meeting of the year at the home of Mrs. Pat LaBranch. Those present were: Mrs. Rubye Wafer, Mrs. Iva Ashton, Mrs. Mel ba Arnold, Mrs. Madge Stanclleyi Mrs. Peggy Chapman and the host ess. Mrs. LaBranch. EVERGREEN GRANGE HEC MEMBERS ENJOY LUNCHEON Evergreen Grange Home Eco nomics Club members enjoyed a potluck luncheon at the hall Fri day noon. Plans were made for a dinner to be served to the public Friday, Feb. 5, starting at 5:30. The next meeting will be Thurs day, Jan. 28 with a poiluck lunch eon at noon. BENEFIT PARTY TO BE HELD WEDNESDAY - St. Joseph's annual card party will be a large benefit affair of Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 8 p.m. at the Roseburg Woman's clubhouse Hearts, diamonds, spades and! clubs will be used to carry out the "card-play" theme. Special fea tures of the party will be the priz-1 es for men attending the affair. In addition to door prizes, priz es will be awarded winners in bridge, pinochle, canasta, samba and five-hundred. Refreshments will be served as each table com pletes the card play. Reservations may be made by telephoning the general chairman, Mrs. E. L. Tauscher, 3-8279. BILL EVANS SPEAKS TO LADY LIONS IN SUTHERLIN Lady Lion's Olub met Tuesday evening for a seven o'clock chick en dinner prepared by ladies of the Sutherlin Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Evans, guests, were present. Mr. Evans told of their trip to Peru and showed many boxes of clothing and other articles they had brought home with them. .
