Dec. 2T, 1953 EDEN LADIES AID HEARS ELS A HUNTER A most enjoyable afternoon was spent Monday when the Eden Ladies Aid met at the home of Mrs. Elsa Hunter. The meeting, conducted by the president, Mrs. Nelda Sand, opened with group singing of Christmas carols. Rev. Peters led the devotions. Mrs. Hunter gave an Interesting account of Christmas in Sweden and told of the traditions there. Plans were made to have a Christmas program Sunday; Dec. 27, at 7 p.m. at the Eden Luther an Church. During the social hour, refreshments will be served. Residents of the community are invited. ' : . . ! Clean-up day at the church was planned for Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Coffee will be served. Luncheon was served by Mrs. Hunter to Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Bloomquist, Mrs. Emilie Harge sheimor, Mis. Oscar Backlund, Mrs. Edna Sjogren, Mrs. Mabel Backlund, Mrs. Ivan Buell, Mrs. Nelda Sand and Debra; Mrs. Han son and Rev. Peters. WCTU ANNUAL PARTY TO BE HELD TUESDAY The annual Christmas party and the December meeting of the WCTU will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at the home ot Mrs. R. D. Knigge, 426 Fullcrton St. The busi ness session will convene at 1:30 P.M. followed by a special Christ mas program. There will be no exchange of Christmas gifts, but those desir ing to do so will brin? gifts for the children at the WCTU Children's Farm Home, CorvaUis or bring a small cash offering for the piggy bank which will be sent to the Portland Cottage at the Farm Home. This cottage has been adop ted as a special project of the Rosoburg .Union and the small bank will be for die cottage as a whole to use as they wish at Christmas time. ROSEBURG, OREGON MEN OP DAYS CREEK PTA SERVE BENEFIT SUPPER A bean supper, cooked and serv ed by the men of the Days Creek PTA, preceded the monthly meet ing Wednesday. The proceeds will go for the children's Christmas oandy. Those active on the supper committee were: Earl Rice, Ray Hudson, Burl Babb, W. C. Thrall, Fran Lynn, Fran Sincomb, Cleo Knight, Joe Harvey, Earl Ash baugh and Vaughn Bennett. During the meeting Mrs. Burl Babb, president, appointed Mrs. Earl Ashbaugh, Mrs. Hal Berg man. Mrs. Knighten and Mrs. Gene Brady to a committee to sack the Christmas candy. The work will be done at Mrs. Bra dy's home. The room count was won by the fifth and sixth grades with fourteen parents present. Entertainment for the February PTA meeting will be supplied by tne uays creek teachers. Mrs. Babb appointed Mrs. Frank- Lee chairman. A social gathering for new Years Eve at Lavador was announced by Mr. Lynn. Speaker for the evening was Sgt. .Wtheatly, of the Ground Ob servers Corps in Roseburg. The program of the air watch is being earned out at lays creek ona limited scale, by 17 high school girls,, captained by Miss Sandra Gale and using the school office phone. Superintendent Yoder an nounced that a phone has been put in the boiler room of the school, so people won't have to use the office phone and the program can now be expanded to townspeople. Sgt. Wheatly urged that everyone be as interested in their country's welfare as the high school stu- WILBUR-WINCH ESTER PTA MEETING HELD Wilbur-Winchester PTA met Fri day at the Winchester grade scnooi. Cloyd Riffe, head of the Music Department of the Rose burg schools, was speaker of the evening. It was most interesting to note the wonderful work he is doing in the schools with music (or the students. Mrs. Snackman's 3rd grade room presented several Christmas numbers to add to the entertain ment of the evening. The business meeting consisted mostly of preparations for the children's Christmas treats. The traveling award for the month was in favor of Mrs. Spackman's room. The mothers of Mrs. Foster's 2nd grade room served lovely refreshments of Christmas cook ies and coffee to the adults and popcorn balls and punch to the ohildren. BETA IOTA CHAPTER PARTY IS TONIGHJ Beta Iota Chapter will have a Christmas party and gift exchange at 8 o clock tonight at the home of Mrs. Jack Denton in Garden Valley. dents and sign up now for air watch. GRANGE HALL DEDICATED IN CAMAS VALLEY SUNDAY The dedication of the Camas Valley Grange Hall took place Sunday at a potluck dinner held at 1 o'clock and was attended by 78. Dedication of the hall was conducted by officers of the Cam as Valley Grange and several sV-.it officers. The dedicating of ticer was Mrs. Mildred Norman, state secretary.
