vr Airplane Makes Forced Landing Near GlendaU I! A light plane, occupied by Mr. and Mri. Robert Vilaj and their' 3 children of Sparks, Nev., was forced down on an unfinUned air strip at Fortune Branch sear Glen dale Dec. 5. With heavy clouds and severe storm conditions clos ing in on them at either end of the valley, Vilas, who had been following the railroad tracks much of the time since taking off from Eugene, planned to set his plane down on the CAA air strip, stilt marked on his map at Glendale. He flew over the field but could see that it was no longer in use, with a fence across it and what looked like standing water in one portion of the field (CAA discon tinued the Glendale air strip Oct. 1.) Vilas then prepared to land his plane, a new Piper Pacer, 4-seat Firm Federation Asks Wage, Price Rules' End SEATTLE tm Elimination of wage and price controls, a curb on the federal sale of electric power and return to tidelands con trol to coastal states were de manded in closing sessions of the American Farm Bureau Federa tion convention here Thursday. The delegates also endorsed flexible farm price support and criticized monopolistic power by "industry, labor, agrculture or the government itself." Labor came in for a separate going over in a repurt on labor management relations which noted what it called the trend toward labor monopoly. And, the delegates agreed, when the government construct a dam, the right to generate power a the dam site should be sold to private enterprise or to states or their political subdivisions. model, on the road, but each time i he was ready to attempt the land ing, cars approached, and he had to retain altitude. He continued to fly about, and finally spotted the field near Fortune Branch which local fliers are readying to take the place of the discontinued one near dlendale. Howard Vaughn, a Glendale pilot seeing Vilas pre dicament, went down the field and flagged him in. The field is still rough and muddy. It was expected that it might be Tuesday or Wednesday before the Vilas family could take off again to complete their journey to Nevada, where Vilas is a professional crop duster. Vilas, dogged by bad weather ever since the family left on a vacation trip for Vancouver, Wash., on Nov. 26, expressed himself as "glad we saw him flagging us. Otherwise, we'd have wound up on some mountain top." The fam ily planned on spending Thanks giving with the children's grand parents in Vancouver but were first delayed by bad weather which grounded them at Redmond for a couple of days. After finally reach ing their destination and visiting with relatives for a few days, the Vil-.s family started home again. Tempted by clear weather, they flew down ihe Pacific Coast, but were soon grounded at Astoria. On their next try they got as far south as Coos Bay but were forc ed back to Newport by a storm. They remained there for several days but, already overdue back home, they took advantage of a brief break in the weather to hop to Eugene. Luck seemed to be with them, and they took off from Eu gene for Grants Pass, but the storm closed in again. Mrs. Vilas, in commenting on their trip, said, "Thank God for railroad tracks." They followed them, when-things got so thick they could not see anything eise. ineir maps snowea a landing Held at Tri-Lity, ana the parents talked ol attempting to return to the field but beiieved that they might not be able to find their way through the storm. Actually, had they been able to reach Tri-City, they would have found that that field, too, has been closed, and that the closest avail able landing field to the north is actually in Roseburg, RADIO PROGRAMS C ICRNR'1490 kc. ;, 1240 kc.
