Olympia Supply Company Has Been A Most Important Factor In The Expansion Of The Forest Industries As a supplier of saw-mill and logging equipment this In dustrial firm was established in Roseburg by Abe Bean in 1944 Izxy Bean, operator and owner today, came In as a partner in 1946 and purchased the interests of Abe Bean in 1951. v " By R. KENNETH EVANS The Olympia Supply company, 803 Winchester street, Roseburg, has contributed much to the expansion of the for est industries in Douglas county by supplying much needed saw-mill and logging equipment that has aided many of the saw-mills to operate successfully and the loirgers to harvest the trees for the mills. This industrial, firm, owned and operated, today, by Izzy Bean was originally established here in 1944 by Abe Bean. At that time it was a branch of the Olympia Supply company in Olympia, Washington, that has been serving the forest industries in the Pacific North west for 42 years, and that was established in 1910 by Earl Bean, as a supplier of saw-mill and logging equipment for the lumber industries located on tho Olympic Peninsula. While it is no longer affiliated with the Olympia Supply com pany in Roseburg it is still in operation under the direction of Percy, Milt and Ben Bean. Izzy Bean has lived in the envi ronment of the forest industries practically all his life. When hos tilities got under way in World War two, Izzy felt the urge to serve his country's need and in 1942 enlisted with the armed forc es. He was assigned to the Fortieth Infantry Divison. He served in the South Pacific war theatre until his honorable discharge in 194G. Expariancad a Staady Growth The war had been an influential factor in the major expansion of the forest industry in Douglas county and the Olympia Supply company, under the management of Abe Bean, had become an im portant part of that expansion. Izzy Bean came to Roseburg, fol lowing his discharge from the arm ed forces, and went in partner ship with Abe Bean. Under this partnership, the Olympia Supply company continued to grow and expand. In June, 1951, Izzy Bean purchased the interests of his part ner and is, today, the sole owner and operator. . Outstanding progress and devel opment of the lumber industry, such as has been experienced in the last decade in Douglas county, is no respector of persons or firms. Some saw-mills exhausted their available timber. Others suffered from forest fires and, in some cases, the owners sold their tim ber holdings and the purchasers did not need the sawmills or equip ment. The machinery in these mills was the highest quality that the market afforded. The management of the Olympia Supply company realized that there was an opportunity to liquidate these mills, recover the fine ma chinery, recondition it and place it on the market. Five of these mills in Douglas county, with machin ery that was valued well up to ha!f-a-mil!ion dollars, have Dcen liquidated by the Olympia Supply company. This has afforded op erators of saw-mills and loggers to get the finest equipment and supplies at a definite saving. A Complata Supply Dapot Today, sawmill operators and loggers can always find just what they need in their operations in the large inventory of mill ma chinery, wire rope, logging blocks, rigging, tools and allied commod ities that are carried in stock by the Olympia Supply company. This machinery and equipment can be supplied that is both new and re conditioned, and at economical prices. As an example, the Olympia Supply company carries a large stock of Pacific wire rope and can do a good job of socketing and splicing the wire rope to meet the purchaser's requirements. Eco rigging is another of the important and wrenches in all sizes for all purposes is another of the import ant items that can be supplied. Boston Rubber company belting including V-belts, Morris roller chains lor saw-mills assembled to size and length desired, are just i few of the lines of supplies that are always found in stock at the Olympia Supply company. In sim ple terms, the saw-mill operator or the logger can find, anything ne migni neea lrom a little stove bolt and nut to the largest cat, don key, logging blocks, or rigging. And that's not all of the story if it isn't in stock, Izzy Bean has such close connection with the na tion's suppliers that he can get what is needed or desired in the shortest possible spaca of time. Wall Arranged plant The large plant maintained at 803 Winchester street, in Rose burg, has all the facilities and equipment to rehabilitate cats, donkeys and other mill-machinery and logging equipment and put it into good condition. This is not only advantageous to the saw-mill operators and loggers but it ties m with the conservation of vital materials that are needed, today, in keeping with federal govern ment prepardness. "It has always been my policy and the policy of the Bean family for the last 42 years, to make service a feature in our opera tions. Every piece of equipment, whelher it is just a little wrench or a large Cat, has our guarantee behind it that it will be just as it is represented to be," was the state ment of Izzy Bean. "It has al ways been our desire to supply our customers with the best commod ities available, and at fhe most economical cost in keeping with good business". The Olympia Supply company, through Izzy Bean and his prede cessors, has always supported ev ery meritorious undertaking that has had for its purpose the further development of the resources in Douglas county, and Roseburg's importance as a commercial and industrial supply center "We have always tried to make the Olympia Supply company an integral part of the entire industrial operations in the forest industry, and always cooperate to the best of our ability, to aid in the continuance of this outstanding record for develop ment and expansion of tho forest industry that has been prevalent the last decade", stated Izzy Bean. There are from 8 to 10 well train ed local people regularly employed by the Olympia Supply company who take pleasure in passing on requisites that are required in the advice and courteously aiding the profitable development of the for- customers to find what they want est industry. Logging blocks can when they visit this store. Three always be secured from the Olym pia Supply company.
