Reem Dial 1-431 1 CHICKYOWEEMAY CAMP FIRE GIRLS HAVE CEREMONIAL A Charter Ceremonial was held by the Chickyoweemay Camp Fire Girls in their meeting room at 832 Cummins Street, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m. The charter was presented by the assistant guardi an, Mrs. Emil Flink, during a candle lighting ceremony. After the ceremonial, the girls decor ated the meeting room by paint ing Indian Symbols on the walls. Community chest songs were sung by: Connie Meyer, Letha De Ross, Carolyn Frisk, Geral dine Flink, Diana - Cartwright, Sharon Denn, Joyce Neavoll, Sharon Pepple, Judy Johnson, Mitzy Stevens and guardians, Mrs. Emil Flink and Mrs. Rob ert W. Mrs. Lydia Emery, chairman of education and voca tions, had charge of the program. The point of interest for the eve ning was hobbies. Mrs. Tom Mason and Mrs, Dorotha Legg were welcomed as new members of the club. Guests for the evening included Ifrs. Sherman, Mrs. McDonald, Mrs. Spurling, Mrs. Gorton and Mrs. Caley. Representative Harris Ellsworth will be sponsored by the club, to speak at the Yoncalla Methodist Church, Oct. 17 at 8 o'clock. His subject will be Na tional Affairs." BAPTIST YOUTH FELLOWSHIP HAS CANDLE LIGHT FETE Sunday evening, Sept. 28, the Baptist Youth Fellowship held a candle light installation of offi cers in the young people's room at the church. Parishioners were in vited. Following the service, the Senior Hi members held an all church singspiration in the lower auditorium. Refreshments were served. Nation-wide Bible Observance was celebrated at a special meet ing at the Baptist Church to ob serve the completion of the re vised standard version of the Bible. Dr. Victor P. Morris of the University of Oregon and prom inent Christian layman was guest speaker. The weekly family potluck din ner will be held this evening be ginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Jackson Dial 3-5521 YONCALLA WSCS HAS ENTERTAINMENT AND BUSINESS SESSION Mrs. Hallie Geider of Sutherlin entertained the members of the Yoncalla WSCS at her home Thurs day afternoon, honoring the birth day of Mrs. Clara Allen, mother of Mrs. Ernest Warner. Visiting was enjoyed during the afternoon, after which delicious refreshments were served to the Mesdames Clara Allen, Ernest Warner, Charlie Kirklie, Luther Daugherty, R. W. Knight, Sadie Lasswell, Maud Thiel of Yoncalla, and Mrs. Ross Geider of Rose burg. Mrs. Charles Kirklie made the lovely birthday cake, in the form of an open book, artistically decorated. The Yoncalla WSCS met at the church Tuesday evening for the monthly business meeting. Mrs. Pauline Latham and Mrs. Louise Snider were hostesses. Plans were made to have the society books edited in the near future. Mr. Charles Kirklie was appointed to make a new folding table for the recreation hall. De licious refreshments were served to the Mesdames Orval Pontius, Eldon Lee, Charles Kirklie, Lyd ia Emery, Dare Kingery, Gerald Johnston, R. W. Knight, Jean Cowan, N. N. WEST MELROSE CLUB MEETS AT SEELEY HOME The West Melrose Club met at the home of Amy Seeley Sept. 18. POTLUCK DINNER ENJOYED BY MEMBERS OF SUTHERLIN GRANGE ON WEDNESDAY A bountiful potluck dinner was enjoyed by the members of the Sutherlin Grange Wednesday eve ning when they gathered at the Grange Hall west of Sutherlin at seven o'clock, with Mr. and Mrs. Icel Clark and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Buck as hosts and hostesses. Those enjoying the dinner and the meeting were: Charles Wahl, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Swift, Mr. and Mrs. Orville French, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Gleason, Mr. and Mis. It was announced the Home Eco nomics club would meet at the home of Mrs. Ray Parker Mon day, Oct. 6, for a potluck dinner and meeting. It was voted to let the Sutherlin Rebeknh Lodge have the hall to use Oct. 14. when they plan on en tertaining the Odd Fellows. A social hour was enjoyed after the meeting. YONCALLA PTA TEACHERS RECEPTION IS HELD The Yoncalla PTA sponsored the annual teachers reception, held in the High School Friday evening. Background music during the eve ning was furnished by the Blick enstaff girls and Kathleen Burns, Molly Kingery, Bill Lasswell and Ann Lasswell. Members of the PTA were each assigned a teach er and a list of pupils in their rooms. They, in turn, were intro duced to parents ot tne pupus. Refreshments were served from small tables, decorated with bou oiiets of asters and zinnias. Roteberej, Or, 1 TUESDAY MEETING HELD BY FAIR OAKS GRANGE Tuesday evening, the Fair Oaks Grange met at the Fair Oaks Grange Hall for a bountiful pot luck dinner at seven o'clock, with Mrs. Viola Hazelette and Mrs. Jennie Harrison as hostesses of the evening. The tables were ar ranged in a very pretty manner and late summer flowers were used as centerpieces. Covers were placed for: Mr. and Mrs. Carl Thornton, Leo and Lar ry; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Thornton and children; Mr. and Mrs. Velma Brauninger and Barbara; Harry Reed, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wil Hams, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Austin and Donald; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hibbaxd, Mrs. Nellie Peterson, Mrs. Ann Secord and Miss Nel lie Peterson, The business meeting was called to order by the master, Lee Wil liams, and various matters of business were discussed. Martin Norris Jr., Emma E. Norris, Calla Norris, Jerry Nor ris, George Rolitzsch and Muriel Rolitzsch were elected to become members of Fair Oaks Grange by initiation. Fred Brauninger reported on the sleeping sickness that has been effecting animals and that it was getting close to home. He suggested that everyone have their animals inoculated Drill work was practiced. SOUTH DEER CREEK GRANGE PLANS MEETING There will be a regular session of the South Deer Creek Grange Saturday evening at 8:15 p.m. at the Grange Hall. No potluck din ner will be held. Refreshments are planned and will be served by the committee. All members are urged to attend. WINCHESTER HOME EXT. UNIT TO MEET THURSDAY The Winchester Home Extension Unit will meet Thursday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. it the home of Mrs. Loraine Lewis with Mrs. Phyllis Williams demonstrating "Using Canned and Frozen Foods la Meals."
