Blast-Trapped Child Escapes With Scratches ALEXANDRIA, Va. OB-A 2-year old girl, hurled two floors and trapped for 30 minutes under de bris of an explosion - shattered apartment, escaped yesterday with nothing worse than scratches. Five other persons were Injured, none seriously, when two mid-afternoon explosions ripped out the back wall of a four-story apart ment house in the huge Abingdon apartment development. Cause of the blasts was not de termined, although it was reported they originated in a basement where new oil burning equipment was being installed. Camas Valley School Dates Announced By Superintendent t By JEAN YODER Camas Valley School schedule for the first two weeks of school have been announced by Super intendent Marlen Yoder. School will open at 9 a.m., PST, Thurs day Sept. 4. The buses will run and follow about the same route and time as last year, according to Mr. Yoder. First grade mothers are asked to accompany their children to school the first day. Each child must have a birth certificate or other proof of age. Faculty To Work Early The faculty will report two days earlier, Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 9:30 a.m., PST. High school students will regis ter the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 3, In the new library. Books may be purchased at a reduced amount on this day. S, starting at 8 a.m. PST with the first traders. Mothers are again asked to bring their children. Ninth graders will follow the first graders for their examinations. Superintendent Yoder points out that all the teach' ers will be in their rooms and will be glad to explain new features of the building and speak with th parents. The P.T.A. plans to sorvo cookies and conee. Hot Lunches Coming We hope to start the hot-lunch program on Sept. 15," said Mr. Yoder. Questionnaires will be sent out the first week of school to the parents to find out how many de sire their children to participate in the hot lunch program. Plans are to serve an entire meal so the student does not have to carry a lunch. Until the lunch program starts children will need to bring their lunch. A Teachers' Reception, sponsor ed by the Camas Valley Grange is being arranged for Sept. 5. Mrs. Margaret Crouch and Mrs. Brun nette Wilson are In charge of ar rangements for the annual social event. Aug. 28 The $119,000 judgment awarded Maur ice Griesel, Roseburg, in Coos cir cuit court, following a car-truck collision, has been settled for 151, 000, according to couit records. The settlement reportedly Includ es sso.ooo insurance, the total car ried by the defendants, and an ad ditional J 1000. Defendants were Pat John Leake, driver of the truck, and J. A. Abston, the truck owner. The car and truck collided head-on near Riverton on highway 101 and Griesel was critically injured.
