8 The News-Review, Roieburg, Oft Tuei., Aug. 5, 1952 Lack Of Interest Holts Television Experiment BASEL, Switzerland Ifl Ex perimental television program in Basel have been suspended be cause of a "lack of public interest," the Swiss Broadcasting Corp. an nounced. The Basel cantonal government last year authorized the establish ment of an experimental televi sion station with public funds, but this decision was subsequently reversed by a contonal referen dum. The station was neverthe less set up, with private financial support, and for two months this summer It broadcast two-hour pro grams three times a week. Television sets were put up In various parts of the canton where the public could view the experi mental programs free of charge. There are many species of kan garoo on New Guinea, but none are larger than fox terriers. Whooping Crane Nursery Found PRINCE ALBERT, Sank. Uh Two United States fish and wild life workers Monday reported dis covery of the summer breeding ground of the almost-extinct whooping crane, a mystery that has baffled ornithologists for more than half a century, Thpy spotted two adult cranes in the marshes north of Great Slave Lake, one on July 11, one the next day. The two scientists are Robert Henry Smith of Medford, Ore., and Everett L. Sutton of Aberdeen, S.D. The significance of the dls overy, Smith said, can be gauged by the fact that only a few speci mens of this four-foot waterfowl remain on the North American continent, About 30 spend their winters on the Texas coast,' 3,000 miles from where the birds breed. Merriman on her 101st an niversary July 10 at the Walker Methodist Home in Minneapolis, Minn. Mrs. Merriman, who came west from Iowa, made her home in Sulherlin from 1910 to 1946, when she went to the Walker Methodist Home to reside. Mrs. Merriman, in a letter this week to Mrs. William C. Woods of Roseburg, stated she bad made herself two new dresses this sum mer and was still able to make her own spending money. She en joys excellent health and recently had her picture taken with others at the home, which appeared in an issue of Life magazine. On her 100th birthday annivers ary last year, she appeared on a television show. BAPTIST CIRCLES TO HOLD QUARTERLY POTLUCK SUPPER The Circles of the First Bap tist Church will hold a quarterly potluck supper at six-thirty o'clock tonight at the church. Eight women, who attended the wom en's house party at Arrahwannnh summer camp on the slopes of Mt. Hood two weeks ago, will report at the meeting. Those attending are asked to bring their own ta ble service. The various circles of the church will meet at the appointed places at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
