Word has been received here
of the serious injury of Clifton
Barrow, former Winston resident,
who now resides in Big Sandy,
Tex, Barrow sustained a broken
neck and severe lacerations in a
recent boating accident while va
cationing at Caddo Lake in Lou
isiana. His condition is reported to be
critical. While residing here, he
was employed by Roseburg Pav
ing. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nichol
son are '.moving this week from
Winston to their former home in
North Platte, Neb. Nicholson is
the brother of Mrs. Don Hatch
of this community.

I.ammont Dupont, 71, one of three
brothers who led the development
f the modern E. I. DuPont de
Nemours & Co., Inc., from a small
black powder factory 150 years ago
to one of the great chemical com
panies of the world, died at a hos
pital here Thursday.
Duront had been ill fur several
weeks and had been taken to the
hospital recently from his summer
home on Fischer's Island, N. Y.
The youngest of three brothers
who built up the mighty industrial
domain, was president of the com
pany for 14 years.
He headed it lrom 1926 to 1940,
succeeding his brothers, Pierre
and Ircnce in that position.
From 1940 to 1948 he was chair
man of the board. It was during
mat period mat uupom company
was called upon to use its scientific
skills in helping to make A-bombs
and Lammot shared in many of
the important decisions.
