New Medical, Procedure Will Aid Korea Vets Post-Kores veterans who neeil outpatient treatment for disabili ties that are presumed to have re sulted from their service will be provided needed treatment by the Veterans Administration until the VA can determine whether their disabilities actually are service connected. According to the VA, the new procedure is designed to prevent any delay in furnishing outpatient treatment for Korean veterans. Under existing regulations, out patient treatment may be given only for service-connected disabil ities after the VA has determined the disabilities are service-connected and has authorized treatment, disabilities before final determin ation has been made applies only to veterans who served in the ac tive U. S. military or navnl forces any place in the world on or after June 27, 1950, the start of the Ko rean hostilities and before a date yet to be established by the VA. Veterans must have been dis charged or released from service under conditions other than dis honorable, or have been retired. One other requirement applies to post-Korea veterans who are retired for disability and are re ceiving disability retirement pay from the armed forces. They must first elect to take compensation from the VA before their disabili ties can be presumed to be service-connected for VA outpatient treatment. Veterans who meet these re quirements may be provided need ed outpatient treatment either for dental or medical disabilities pre sumed to have been incurred in or aggravated by service. While these treatments are being given, the VA will, determine if the disa bilities actually are service-connected. Where the VA later finds that disabilities are not service-connected, outpatient treatment will be discontinued from that date. To be eligible for dental out-patient treatment under these con ditions, a post-Korea veteran must file his application within 12 months from the date of his dis charge or release from a period of 6 months or more of active service that has been terminated on or after June 27, 1950. Oregonians Are Responsible For Most Accidents Oregonians, not tourists from other states, pile up most of Ore gon's traffic accidents, the secre tary of state's traffic safety di vision reported after a check of 1951 records. The division said 85 percent of all accident drivers last year lived either in the city in which the mishaps occurred or within 25 miles of the accident scene. Only live percent of the year s toll in volved drivers from out of the state, the reports show. Seventy-one percent of the acci dent drivers had more than six years driving experience.
