6-Day Fight For Public Links Championship Starts At Miami MIAMI, FU. I The rugged, nix-day, man to man battle 'or National Public Links Golf champ ionship opened Monday over the 6,411 yard Miami Country Club course, the oldest and one of the toughest in the South. Two hundred stars of the muni cipal courses were here to compete in the grueling, eight-round slrua glo, including 199 who qualified in district tests throughout the United States and Hawaii. Defending champion Dave Stanley of Los Angeles was exempt from the qual ifying round. The Miami course offered a formidable challenge to the visitors in Saturday's medal, competition for the Warren G. Harding trophy. The aggresate score of 227 by the winning Chicago team of George Dayiantis, John Droba and Danto Vlcini was 17 strokes over par. Edward Vandenberg, William Lees, and Roy Atkins, of the Port land, Ore., team tied for 14th with 240. Tied for 17th with 241 wai the Seattle team of Bill Burns, John Tershin and Ernest Althuser. S. women's Olympic swimming team could set a new Olympic record in the 400 eter relay and it's the strongest it has ever been in the 200 meter breast stroke.
