SUMMER CANASTA CLUB HAS SESSION T Summer flowers were used by Mrs. Eva Coult Tuesday when she entertained her Canasta Club at a one o'clock dessert luncheon at her Sutherlin home on East Cen tra! Avenue. Covers were placed for the Me dames Beverly Baird, Letha Barn es, Lucille Chriss, Dorothy Baird, Amie Eggleiton, Phyllis Halvor sen, Madeline Hansen, Marian Magness, Faith Thompson, Lucille Chase, Gladys Bender and the hostess, Mrs. Coult. Canasta was in play during the afternoon with Mis. Hansen and Mrs. Chase winning high scores) Mrs. Halvorsen and Mrs., Chriss, low scores. The next meeting of the club will be held July 15 at the home of Mrs. Letha Barnes. The long white linen-covered table was centered with a pretty bouquet of lilies. Other bouquets of summer flowers were placed about the rooms. Covers were placed for: Hen rietta Beswick, Leona Slack, Bre tha Barge, Luella Pleuard, Mary Barker, Phreda Wahl, Doris Stein bach, Charlotte Parker, Hazel Scruggs, Maggie Francis, Alma Anderson, Mabel Olscn, Mabel Ross, Maude Culver and the bos' ess, Mrs. Wegner., The business meeting was called to order by the president, Miss Pleuard, and roll call was answer ed with quotations. Several mat ters of business were discussed and communications read. The penny prize, furnished by Mrs. Ross, was won by Miss Pleu ard. The door prize went to Mrs. Parker. The social hour was spent In visiting and playing of a couple of games. The first game was won by Mrs. Steinbach. Mrs. Ander son won the consolation prize. The quiz game was won by Mrs. Bark er, Mrs. Wahl, Mrs. Scruggs and Mrs. Parker. GARDEN DEPARTMENT TO MEET AT LUNCHEON The Garden Department of the Roseburg Woman's Club will meet at a one-thirty o'clock luncheon Tuesday, July 8, at the clubhouse. Herbs and herb cookery will be the topic. Program and products for the program will be supplied by the Patricia Winter "The House of Herbs," Salisbury, Conn. An attractive exhibit showing the products and herb gift ideas will be prepared. Some detailed receipes and menus will be pre sented during the discussion of herbs in the modern kitchen. Preparation of pot-purri will be discussed by Mrs. G. V. Wimberly. Mrs. J. M. Boyles will have charge of the program and will be assisted by Mrs. Kenneth Ford. Hostesses for the day include Mrs. H. D. Scott, chairman, Mrs. Vernon Keel, Mrs. Jack West and Mrs. Earl Bleile. All members are asked to bring samples of herbs to the meeting from their gardens. . ROPE JOINT INSTALLATION HELD LAST TUESDAY The first joint Installation o( junior lodges and Theta Rho gills clubs In the state of Oregon was held Tuesday, July 1, at the IOOF Hall in Roseburg in a very beau tiful ceremony. Later ice cream and cake were served to about 60 members, brother and sister Rebekahs, par ents and guests, WAGON WHEELS DANCE CLUB HAS RECENT SESSION The "Wagon Wheels" Square Dance Club met Saturday evening at the Roy Lucas home for an enjoyable evening of dancing. About 50 persons were present to enjoy the evening. Several members of the "Hay Seed" Club were present and stated that they were having a box social im the near future. . At a late hour, tasty refresh ments were served. Some of the members went back to dance after eating. The next club dance will be held Saturday evening, July 12. ! ELGAROSE COMFORT CLUB TO MEET TOMORROW The Elgarose Comfort Club will meet Tuesday, July 8, at the home of Mrs. Thelma Hanson for a baked food sale. OES met In regular session Thursday eve ning, with Mary Barker, worthy matron and Lloyal Stearns, worthy patron, presiding. The meeting was dedicated to the entertainment of the Masons of the vicinity. The evening started with a pot luck supper In the lower dining room. The long tables were deco rated with early summer flowers and the supper was under the direction of Marlon Turner, Ir ma Cornish, Ruth Bridges, Vesta Cot a and Mary Barker. During the meeting, Mrs. Juan ita Holgate, who was recently in stalled Grand Ruth of the Grand Chapter of Oregon, was escorted, introduced and presented with a corsage. Vern Holgate, master of Oakland Lodge, No. 16 A. F. and A. M. was escorted and Intro duced as a tribute to all Master Masons. The Worthy Matron announce that at the first meeting in Sep tember, members would receive the traveling flags from Gardner chapter, and the following Thurs day, September 18, Oakland chap ter would take them to Myrtle Point. After the meeting, an adenda was given in honor of the Master Masons. They were presented with miniature Masonic aprons. A talk was given by Lloyal Stearns. The balance of the evening was spent in folk dancing, managed by Delmar Murphy. The chapter is now at recess until September 11. Those visiting Grand Chapter OES at Portland were reported as follows: Mrs. Mary Barker, Mrs. Olga Bielman, Mrs. Nadine Stearns and Mr. and Mrs. Vein Holgate. At a meeting of the Southern Oregon Association of the OES Mrs. Mary Barker was elected vice-president of the association. Very interesting reports of Grand Chapter were given during the evening. AOWAKIYA CAMP F'RE GROUP The next meeting of the club will be Wednesday, August 6. at the home of Mrs. Florence Cook at 1:30 o'clock in the afternoon. June 21 and 22, the Aowakiya Camp Fire Group enjoyed an over night trip to Coos Bay. The City of Coos Bay lent their Boy Scout cabin in which the girls cooked their meals by the fireplace. Saturday afternoon was spent at Sunset Beach. The girls had a wiener roast and watermelon picnic. Then the group visited the Cape Arago lighthouse and Coast Guard Station. Sunday, after breakfast, which each person cooked, and church, the group packed car lunches and returned home by the way of Drain stopping for a swim at the Umpqua Lighthouse and jetty. Enjoying the trip were Mary Ann and Carol Duyck, Genevieve Murphy, Janice Ospald, Geral dine Flick, Marjorie and Ann Kil kenny, Mary Reda, Kathleen Scott, Georgeanne Kuhn, Judith Vineyard, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Murphy and son, Mike; Mr. and Mrs. George Kuhn, Mrs. Charles Duyck, Mr. and Mrs. R.
