I Prisoners in the medium security block at Soledad State prison Ttafied a riot during the nisht which was broken up early Monday by guarda shoot ing tear Ras into two wings of the new building. The two wings house about 300 prisoners. None of the prison of ficials was injured, and the con victs got no hostages. But there was scarcely a window left unbroken in either wing. The trouble started about 9:30 p.m. The convicts were In complete control of the two wings until about 12:12 a.m. Monday. Acting Warden C. J. Fitzharrls said a "group of young hoodlums" started the riot. Three prison officers were in the wing where the riot started. One got out as the convicts reached the main electric switches and darkened the whele institution. Guard M. Davis tossed his keys out a window so the rioting con- I victs couldn't get them. Then he I and Guard Frank Rogers fled into I a day room and barred the door. Wolfsohn of Illinois. McKinney, a resident of Santa Fe, succeeds William E. Warne, who has undertaken new duties in connection with the "Point Four Program" for development of backward countries.
