All members of the I official as well as all members of 'the church are requested to be present at this Important meet-Ing. 0 raw a l .1, Wmm SUNSET GARDEN CLUB HAS PLANT EXCHANGE The Sunset Garden Club of Dil. lard-Winston held a delightful plant exchange during their reg ular meeting Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Dean Collins. The busi ness meeting convened at eleven o'clock, conducted by Mrs. Leo Manske, acting president, in the absence of Mrs. Art Johnson. A discussion was held on slipping and growing chrysanthemums. Four new members were voted on and accepted into the club: Mr. Fred Albertus, Mrs. Roy Gordon, Mrs. Virgil Post and Mrs. Ronald Burgess. It was decided to hold the next meeting at the home of Mrs. Leo Manske, and from there to visit various iris gardens around the Roseburg area. A sark lunch was enjoyed at noon. The group all helped the hostess, Mrs. Collins, draw plans for landscaping her yard. A bulb exchange was - participated in from the gardens of Mrs. Rosa Heinbach. The group later went to the home of Mrs. Alvin Tip ton to admire her flowering shrubs. Those present for the Interest ing meeting were the Mcsdames Lettltia Halverson, Ava Smith, Alvin Tipton, Leo Manske and two grandchildren; Eleanor Shig ley, Frances Collins, Decla Tay lor, Rosa Heinbach and the host ess, Mrs. Collins. Bureau of Public Roads, reports that the Watts Construction Company of Portland was awarded the con tract for four and one-half miles construction of the new North Umpqua highway from Bogus Creek to Steamboat. It will cost $465,000. The Watts Co. is plan ning the building of a camp at Williams Creek to house 50 of their construction men. Hanson also reports that the Kuckenburg Construction Com pany has a great number of men and heavy equipment on the job to complete the two contracts which it holds for construction of the new North Umpqua highway. The contract covering Susan Creek to Burnt Creek, work on which was started in the spring of 1951, is almost completed. O n Kuckenburg's contract for the road construction from Burnt Creek to Bogus Creek, awarded thm last fall, the company was able to work only two weeks when wealher conditions forced it to close down the first of Novem ber. Hanson. . in charge of all these operations, states that Kick enburg Construction expects to have its contracts completed this fall. TOASTMISTR ESS CLUB HAS RECENT SESSION "Take An Oregon Trip," Mrs. C. E. Reece told the Toastmist ress Club at regular session last Wednesday evening. Mrs. Reece took her audience, vacationing through lecture. Mrs. Glenn Parker opened the meeting and Mrs. Robert Allen gave the invocation, Mrs. Roy Stein also gave a short talk. Mrs. Hilda Peterson, toastmis tress, introduced Miss Velma Worth, who told of her early life in Oregon. Critics for the evening were Mrs. H. 0. Austin, Mrs. Walter Barker and Mrs. Thomas Patty, evaluator. Miss Janis Johnson, centennial queen candidate, was a guest for the evening. Plans were made for a dinner meeting May 28. WOMEN'S ENEFIT ASS'N PLANS DESSERT-LUNCHEON The Women's Benefit Associa tion will meet Thursday, May 22, a 1:45 p.m. -for a dessert-luncheon at the home of Mrs. Vivian Romaine, 312 N. Chadwick. All members and their invited guests are urged to attend. EVERGREEN GRANGE H. I. CLUB PLANS MEETING Evergreen Grange Home Eco nomics Club will meet Thursday at 801 Vista for a noon potluck luncheon. Morgans Return Home Mr. and Mrs. Chester Morgan have returned to their home in Rose burg, following the last several days in Portland attending to busi ness. Visiting Friends Mr. and Mrs. Robert Slults and children, Lynn, David and Baby Brian, of Rose burg, visited Salem over the week end, where they saw friends and relatives. Spends Weekend Here Mickie Coen, student at Willamette Uni versity, Salem, spent the weekend in Roseburg with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Coen, on Overlook. On Program Mr. and Mrs. Fuller Johnson of the News-Review circulation department were guests interviewed Tuesday mor ning by Mel Venter on the Break fast Gang radio program in San F"rancisco. The Johnsons are en joying a two-weeks vacation. In Eastern Oregon Dr. and Mrs. Leland Van Allen spent the weekend in Eastern Oregon. The Van Aliens make their home in Roseburg. Te Leave For California John Carrigg of Garden Valley will be leaving for Berkeley, Calif., short ly to visit his sister, Mrs. Harold Clyde. Mr. Carrigg will visit Mrs. Clyde until the beginning of June, then bring his sister to visit their mother.
