Or. Queen will speak on "Can cer Control" at the March 31 ses- ran sion at 7 p.m. in the Junior High School library. Mrs. Jennelle Moorhead, of the University of Oregon, is conduct ing the course, which started Monday. Dr. Queen's lecture will be open to the public. Other sessions include teaching demonstration on communicable disease, March 24; tuberculosis control by Kenneth Ross, Oregon Health and TB Assn.; objective of teaching physiology and ex ercise, April 14; objectives of teaching mental health, April 21; human relations and class accent- ability, April 28; mental health movies, May 5; and venereal dis ease control, Dr. Samuel Osgood, epidemiologist, Oregon Board of Health, May 12. Barney discussed his travels in a talk before the Roseburg Kiwanis Club Tuesday noon. Experience of being pulled over board far out at sea. and riding tropical gales didn't in the least worry the slight, but sea-experienced Barney, who spoke affec tionately of his sea-worthy China Doll. He lost no sleep on the trip. He rigged up a robot pilot, and he and the robot took their turns at the wheel. When it stormed, he just went down below and rode it out. Even being pulled overboard by a drag line, which broke loose. didn't worry Barney. After being pulled into the water, he looked back to see the China Doll some distance away. He was sure he couldn't make it, and if he did most of the time and became quite tame, but he couldn't touch it. Finds Island Paradise Discussing his navigation, he said he had no difficulty checking his position with his wrist watch, after a specially rigged clock failed, and by "dead reckoning." He crossed the equator at the 135th parallel, headed into the southeast tradewinds, and on June 17 sighted the land of his destination, the Marquesas. The Islands were a fitting re ward to the voyager. He described them as "paradise." The natives were wonderful, even though he couldn't speak their language, French. They treated him royally. Hp visited several of the islands. especially Nuku Hioa and Taiohai lie commented on the ease of life of the natives, who don't have to worry about money, because they don't make any and don't need any. Carter said there would be no noise if there was heat. It was Carter's complaint that brought the landlord into court on a charge of providing insufficient heat.
