In order to qualify, the candidate must be unmarried, (not married now and has not been married), a resident of Douglas County since June 1, J9S1, and between the ages of 1 and 22. Candidates must be sponsored by an organization, group of organizations, community or town. All votes secured by their collective candiates will be accepted on June 14 as votes for a single winner of such regional contest and so en tered in the ballot. The contest will open and the sale on all items will begin Thurs day , May 1, and will close mid night of June 14. The seven con testants having the highest num ber of votes will be declared the princesses of the Umpuqa Caval cade. The queen will be selectd from the princesses by the guests at the Queen's Ball and coronation to be held Aug. 2. The selection will be on the basis of beauty, talent and popularity. Beauty and talent shall be judged by five im partial judges who shall remain anonymous. Popularity shall be de termined by tSie ballots cast by those present. The winner will be announced with appropriate cere mony. Each princess will be entitled to receive special merchandise gifts and services from local Roseburg merchants, and merchants of other cities and towns in Douglas County. The Kcyal Court will servo as official representatives at other celebrations throughout the state. All of their expenses will be paid Girls will be properly chaperoned at all times. Sponsorship groups may include schools, clubs, professional societ ies, service clubs, fraternal organ izations, chruches , granges, trade organizations, vCerans groups, communities, industrial concerns, commercial establishments, towns, georgraphlcal areas, lan guage or national groups. All candidacies should be filed by April 28, and their credentials care fully examined by the queens com mittee. A meeting will be held the night of April 30. There are no restrictions as to chandise. At the April 30 meeting. each candiate and campaign man ager will be provided with the mer chandise in a starting package. No settlement will be demanded until the close of the contest. Each transaction with the business of fice is a matter of record and the candidate is provided with a re ceipt showing th number of votes crediteted to her. The relative standing of each candiate will be made public from time to time.
