0 Indian Woman Bears Fifth Set Of Twins PINE RIDGE, S. D. I - Mrs. Marcella Big Crow was the proud est woman on the Pine Ridge In dian Reservation after leaving the hospital here Wednesday with her fifth set of twins. The latest, a pair of girls, ar rived Friday. The previous four sets included a boy and a girl each. The Big Crows lost a baby girl from the first arrivals. But a single birth of a girl followed to give them five each of beys and girls. Archie Wilson of the Bufalo Bi sons led the International League in '51 in runs-batted-in, total bases and hits. He is property of the Yankees. Fred Poehler, Notre Dame's sophomore tackle from Jackson, Mich., is the onlh member of the Irish squad from the Wolverine itate. The State Supreme Court ruled last November that oy Hoptowit, Yakima Indian, had a right to fish at any place provided under an 1885 treaty with the federal gov ernment. The newest celebrity in golf and recipient of a belated invitation to the Thunderbird Club party is Ted Kroll, a youngish looking man of 32 of Polish descent, from New Hartford N. Y. Kroll won the $10,000 San Diego Open Sunday. He led at the start, with a spectacular 65 and he led at the finish with a stubborn, well deserved 70 wilji rounds of 69 and 72 in between The result gave the ex-caddie a 12 under par 276, $2,000 in cash, and his first major triumph, Jimmy Demaret, who collected $2,500 for winning the recent Bing Crosby event, pocketed $1,400. Just back of him, winning $920 apiece were Jim Ferrier of San Francisco and young Jay Hebert of Great Neck, N. Y. both at 282. Gil HcDougald, recently voted the American league's top rookie, was a star basketball player in high school in San Francisco. Rogue River Edges Oakland Here's one for the books. At Rogue River, Oakland's High School basketball team lost an in tercounty "B" tilt, but leduntil the final regulation gun went off. Rogue River won, 37-34, In an overtime Saturday. The Oaks overtook the Chelf tains after they made the first basket and continued to lead all the way. Thy were still ahead, 33-31, with five seconds to go when Jim Nil- ton Intercepted a pass and raced in to make a shot. The ball was looping for the basket as, the gun went off. It swished through to tie the score at 33-33. The Chieftains took the decisive lead in the over time with two baskets to win. Forbes Gildersleeve played the best game of his career. He scored 17 points and threw a blanket over high scoring Jim Boulter, who was held to four points after the half when Gildersleeve was sent to stop him. Boulter had made 12 in the initial half . Or. 7 YMCA Dates Recruitment Week Soon The board of directora of the Roseburg Young Men's Christian Association voted to join the 208 association! in Oregon, Washing tot., Idaho, California and British Columbia, in a centennial mem bership enrollment and leadership recruitment week Jan. 28 to Feb. 4. It Is expected that nearly all of the YMCA's and branches of the Pacific Northwest area wiil par ticipate In this Pacific coast-wide campaign. The Roseburg YMCA which al ready has an enrollment of 323 members has adopted a goal of 150 new members for this enroll ment week and has determined to increase Its membership to a total of 500 membera by the end of 1952. "This is an unusual oppor tunity," said Alva Laws, the presi dent of the Roseburg YMCA In announcing the action of the board. "The united effort ot more than 200 associations will be a great challenge to the workers In Roseburg. We feel that our own membership will welcome this op portunity to join with other ansoci ations in this enrollment and will rally to the support of associations in tnis coast-wide campaign.
