He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hector Combs of Effie, Minnesoto. June is a senior at Roseburg Senior High School and Bennie is employed at the Dillard branch of the Roseburg Lumber Company. G .Stephenson, who has been in the Douglas County Assessor's oftice for many years and who is convalescing at his home from a recently fractured hip, was honor' ed at a most delightful surprise party Monday afternoon at his home on Flint street .The day marked his seventy-seventh birthday. Members of the Assessor's office presented a beautiful birthday cake to him, which was used as a centerpiece for the prettily ap pointed buffet table. Red carna tions formed the floral decorations. Stonehocker of Canyon ville, Ore., to James Donald Put- man, son ot Mr. ana mrs. i,. u. Putman of Boulder, Colo. The mar riage took place in Reno, Nev., Friday, Dec. 28. Mr. ana Mrs. ruiman are man ner their home in uanyonvuie where he Is manager of the Rice Lumber Company. Mr. Putman was one of tne most outstanding athletes in recent years in Boulder where he was graduated Irom uouiaer itigo School with the class of 1940. He attended the University of Colo rado for two and a half years be fore entering the air force. Followine his discharge irom the service he played professional basketball with the St. Louis Bomb ers for three years. Before cominz to Canyonvme, Mr. Putman served as assistant manager of the Boulder Country Club in Boulder. BIRTHDAY PARTY HONORS RUSTY COOPER SATURDAY A birthday party was held Sat urday, Jan. 12 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell F. Cooper, east of Sutherlin, in honor of Rusty Cooper's seventh birthday. Among the guests was Miss Eu nice Wolfenbarger who celebrated her fifth birthday that day. Games were played with prizes being won by several of the chil dren. After Rusty and Eunice blew out the candles on their cake, they opened gifts. Refreshments were then served. Those present were Eunice and Charles Wolfenbager, Bobby Kr cher, Gary McKinney, Roger Met calf and Evelyn and Rusty Cooper. Sending gifts but unable to at tend because of illness were Nancy Venza and Robert Fish. After the party Mr. Cooper drove all the children to their home. ROSE PTA OBSERVES DADS NIGHT AT MEETING ON MONDAY Dads night was observed by the Rose Parent - Teachers Associ tion Monday evening at the school with Dr. Byron Woodruff, presi dent, conducting the session. Mr. Karejwa is secretary and Mr. Oil man is treasurer of the Association for this year. Rev W. A. MacArthur gave a most delightful chalk talk. Flans were discussed for a smor gasbord, which will be sponsored by the Association from six to eight o'clock the evening of Feb. 15 at the School. The public is cordially invited to attend. Founders day will be observed the evening of Feb. 4 at seven thirty o'clock. The volleyball and basketball suits purchased by the PTA were shown. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting.
