Stephens St. Roseburg, Oregon Rubber Act Extension Requested By Truman WASHINGTON OB President Truman advised Congress Monday that a substantial stockpile of natural rubber has been accumu lated, and said that if international conditions do not worsen "it may be possible to begin soon to taper off" buying for that purpose. Mr. Truman made the statement in a message which: 1. Asked an extension for two years of the Rubber Act of 1948, ana 2. Renewed the recommendation he made two years ago that the government be authorized to sell its synthetic butyl rubber plants to private industry. Shortages Discovered In U.S. Grain Program WASHINGTON W Comptroller General Lindsay C Warren told senators Friday he had ordered a "full and complete investigation" of shortages in the Agriculture De partment's grain storage program, after his auditors found shortages of more than $3,800,000 in a single office at Dallas, Tex. White Potatoes Face Price Rollback Jan. 28 WASHINGTON Wl The govern ment announced Wednesday that retail prices for white potatoes will be rolled back Jan. 28 to reflect the lower ceilings at the farm shipper level. Price Stabilizer Michael V Dl Salle said the order setting the maximum retail markups will be issued within the next few days. These markups will take into ac count the average 5 to 10 per cent cut in country shipping point prices ordered to take effect Jan. 19. Office of price Stabilization officials explained that the Jan. 28 date for the retail price action will give stores an opportunity to dispose of potatoes they may have bought at prices higher than the new ceilings. The custodian found the heavv plate glass of the case broken and then bands missing. The shrine to the English poet was dedicated only last Dec. 3.
