Chairman Hoey (U.-n.U) toia a reporter Wednesday he will call his group into session this week, possibly Thursday, to decide the order in which to conduct these oublic hearings: 1. A study of a quick $2,800,000 profit realized by former Congress man Robert E. Casey and associ ates on a $100,000 investment in war surplus oil tankers. 2. The part played by Rep. Boy- kin (D.-Ala.) in interceding with the Reconstruction finance Cor poration in behalf of government loan seekers. 3. RFC loans in which Mrs. Flo Brattcn, secretary to Vice Presi dent Barkley, and Charles E. Shav er, a former Senate employe, have acknowledged they interceded in behalf of friends. 4. The handling of war surplus sales under supervision of Jess Lar son, a career government official. Larson himself demanded the in vestigation after the St. Louis Posx Dispatch criticized the 1948 sale of a California aluminum plant to Landulant-Torrence Corp. Britain To Do Her Part In Europe's Defense Churchill Promises In Addressing Congress WASHINGTON I Prime Min ister Churchill pledged to Congress Thursday that Britain will do her part in defending Europe, and will Join in a "resolute and effective' response should new Communist aggression Dreak out in me rar East. In an address to a joint Senate- House session, the British leader declared: "We take our stand at your side." Churchill, speaking slowly from notes, told Congress the British are "very glad' that "you do not allow the Chinese anti-Communists on Formosa to be invaded.' And he predicted that in time China would throw off Communism. By implication at least.ahese re marks moved British policy in the Far East closer to that of the Unit ed States. Britain has recognized Commu nist China while this country still recognizes the Nationalist govern ment of Chiang Kai Shek. A-Bomb Caution Urged In other highlights, Churchill: 1. "Be careful, above all things, not to let go of the atomic weapon until you are sure and more than aure that the means of preserving peace are in your hands," he said. Just before his caution about the A-bomb, Churchill had said the most "effective deterrent against a third world war" was the "val iant resolution" of a well-armed international force, "rather than the awful secret which has been wrested from nature." "A supreme determination' against another war would be the most effective guaranty of victory, he said. Money Not Sought Churchill began his address by saying that all his conferences here were aimed so that "we can do our best for the common cause." He said, "I have not come here to ask you for money." But quickly he said that Britain must have American help if It Is to meet the defense production goals it has set. "It Is for you to judge," he said, how much aid Britain should re ceive. But whether the United States K radices "much or little," Churc ill. declared, the British nations will continue to make a maximum effort to strengthen the defenses of the free world! Of aid, Churchill said that he had Cume to the United States to ask "not lot gold, but for ateel, not for favors but for equipment."
