Robert Hcrwlty, Former Hatchet y Employet, Dies Robert Hawley, formerly 0 f Roseburg and employed by the Oregon state game commission at the Rock creek hatchery, died Dec. 17 at Emanuel hospital in Portland after three months' ill ness. He resided at 632 No. Webster street in Portland. Surviving are the widow. Norma. and daughter, Dianne; . also his mother and three sisters of Port land. Services were held at the Colonial mortuary, Portland, to day at 1 p.m. The Hawleys lived at the Rock Creek hatchery several years, but went to Portland during the war. Mr. Hawley had been engaged in carpentry and contract work. Mr. and Mrs. N. E. Hatfield of Roseburg went to Portland last weekend and visited Mr. Hawley in the hospital. Tau Eta Eta Sorority To Address Polio Mail Tau Eta Eta sorority will meet at the chamber of commerce of fice tonight and will address by hand 2000 mail pieces for the im pending March of Dimes fund raising campaign. Bob McCarl, drive - chairman for Roseburg, said that of the approximate 50 local organiza tions who have volunteered group services for the coming polio fund campaign, this function marks the first organized specific activity. The drive starts Jan. 2, and con tinues through Jan. 31. The goal is 325,000. Mother Of 7 Children ' ' Fatally Burned In Home MCM1NNVILLE VP) The mother of seven children died Wednesday from burns suffered when her house caught fire. She was Mrs. Lepna Morris, 34. She died in a hospital here sev eral hours after she was found in a water ditch near her burning house. None of the children, who range In age from 2 to 17, was borne at the time of the mishap. One was with his father, Ray Morris, in Vernonla. The others were in school. Cause of Hie fire which de stroyed the house was not discovered. Eastman and his wife wlU get their bachelor's degrees at the University of Wash ington Friday 21 years after they started working for them. Both started in 1930 but were ftiriptrAftroH hv ' ifin itanracslnn .Their busy 21 years since have been highlighted by their marri age in 1931, the raising of three children and Eastman's climb through Seattle's police ranks to chief's job. ' Majoring in political science, Eastman has squeezed in univer sity courses whenever he could. Often he had to take "incom pletes" because of interruptions, in his classroom or extension work. Eastman also did about two-1 thirds of the work on the family's hnmtt on1 AA m Int nf u-nrlr ' on their later home. Those were the things he did in what he jest ingly refers to as his spare time. TWO DRUNKS JAILED Two men, arrested on drunk charges, were each committed to the city jail in lieu of $20 fines, reports Municipal Judge Ira B. Riddle. They were Bert Francis Lieb, 50, 133 N.
