eastern Oregon. Of historical in
terest is tne legend concerning tne
pioneer wagon trains which took
shelter in the large circular area
enclosed by the sheer rocky cliffs
of Fort Rock and where the travel

formation is said to stand out in
a comparatively level desert area.

morning where uie large barn and
contents were completely de
stroyed by a spectacular fire which
consumed the building in less than
two hours. Rain soaked roofs
were a major factor in preventing
the spread of the flames to ad
joining buildings. When the aged
couple were aroused, the fire,
which started from an unknown
source inside the barn, had made
such headway that they were un
able to salvage any of the con
tents, but were successful in tak
ing out the two horses and cow
