WRITERS CLUB HAS ENJOYABLE POTLUCK DINNER AT HOUCK HOME The Roseburg Writers club mem bers enjoyed a most delightful pot luck dinner meeting Tuesday eve ning at the attractive home of Dr. and Mrs. George E. Houck on South Stephens street. Fall flowers formed a pretty mo tif for the occasion. Following the dinner, election of officers was held and included: Mrs. Hilda Pe terson, president; Mrs. K. D. Litle, vice president, and Mrs. George E. Houck, secretary-treasurer and historian. The next meeting will be Oct. 29 at 8 p. m. at the Houck home. PATCH AND CHAT CLUB HOLDS WEDNESDAY SESSION The Patch and Chat club held the first meeting of the fall at the home of Mrs. D. W. Keasey, on the Keasey road Wednesday eve ning. Fall flowers decorated the rooms and sewing and visiting were en joyed. Lovely refreshments were served by Mrs. Keasey who was assisted by Mrs. C. Domenico and Mrs. C . J. Bradley. Guests present were: Mrs. How ard Calkins and Mrs. R. Wood. Members there were: Mrs. Darley Ware, Mrs. Gordon Ware, Mrs. E. R. Buckingham, Mrs. Curtis Calkins, Mrs Jack Boor, Mrs. E. G. The meeting was adourned for a social hour and refreshments were served using the Halloween motif. FAIR OAK5 PINOCHLE CLUB HOLDS SESSION Mr. and Mrs. Harold Austin were host and hostess to the Fair Oaks Pinochle club Saturday evening at the Jake Francis home, east of Sutherlin. Beautiful bouquets of dahlias and mums were placed about the rooms. Pinochle was in play during the evening hours with Edward Lam orcaux winning high score for men: Mrs. Dorothy Norton, high for ladies; Fred Brauninger, sec ond high for men and Miss Eve lyn Frotscher, second high for la dies. At a later hour Mr. and Mrs. Austin served a delightful potluck supper to: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Norton. DILLARD-WINSTON YOUTH GROUP ENJOYS SKATING PARTY The Dillard-Winston youth group enjoyed the first skating party of the season Friday night at the Rolletta rink in Roseburg. There were 85 young people in attend ance. Jess Nelson drove the large school bus accompanied by Rov. Frank B. Drew and George Mc Dowell. Other parents assisting with the transportation were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Trobaugh, C. C. I SENIOR GIRLS ARE HONORED AT ANNUAL PEO TEA FRIDAY The annual tea for senior girls of Roseburg Senior high school and women members of the faculty to be sponsored by Chapter Bl, PEO Sisterhood, was . a large and charming affair of Friday after- noon from two to four o'clock at (he beautiful home of Mr. and Mrs H. T. Hansen in Laurelwood. Mrs. Neil Kaser Sr. spoke to acquaint the girls with the educa tional project of PEO. The main tenance of Cottey college and the awarding yearly of two or more Cottey scholarships and five state scholarships, is carried on by the PEO. A local scholarship Is given yearly by Chapter Bl to Roseburg Senior high school girls and Mrs. Kaser urged the girls of high scho lastic qualifications to compete for these awards. There were 125 present. Coffee and punch were served at the tea hour. i WSCS OF METHODIST CHURCH HOLDS SESSION The Woman's Socletv of flhris- tian Service of the First Methodist church met Thursday in the social hall of the church for a one o'clock dessert served by circle No. 4. The tables were beautiful with fall flowers and foliage. Mrs. A. B. Taylor led the de votions and Mrs. 0. M. Kent had charge of the program. She was assisted by Mrs. A. J. Geddes. Mrs. Paul Abeel, Mrs. Charles Wilson, Mrs. Leo Gillette and Mrs. Bruce Mollis. The president, Mrs. Floyd Pow ell, conducted the business meet ing. The bazaar, which was an nounced for Dec. 7, was discussed and orders made for articles to be sold. A request was made for warm clothing for Koreans. The clothing is to be left at the church by Nov 1. Mrs. E. B. Bass, president of the Roseburg Council of Church Women, announced World Com munity day for Nov. 2 at a p.m. to be held in the Presbyterian church. ROGER STUART IS HONORED AT RECENT PARTY Mrs. Henry Hall entertained at a luncheon Monday at her home in honor of Mrs. Roger Stuart of San Francisco, Calif., who is here in Roseburg visiting relatives and friends. An array of lovely rosea adorned the table. Guests were Mrs. Stuart, guest of honor: Mrs. Violet Stroop, Mrs. Dallas Bennett and tha hostess, i Mrs. Henry Hall. OAKLAND CHAPTER OF EASTERN STAR HOLDS FRIENDSHIP NIGHT Oakland chapter No. 91, Order of Eastern Star, held its annual Friendship night Thursday e v e ning, with members attending from the following chapters: Rose burg No. 8, Elkton No. 143, North Star No. 121, Gold Beach No. 161 and Oregon No. 57. Visitors were also present from several other chapters. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. Virginia Sta cey, worthy matron, and Delmar Murphy, worthy patron. The chapter rooms were cleverly decorated with autumn leaves, fail flowers and fruit by Mrs. Ruth Manning and Mrs. Susie Cock eram. The following program was pre sented: a clever reading by Mrs. Adah Brown and a humorous skit by Mrs, Meryl Wahl, Mis. Time and date will be a n nounced later, BILLY BENNER IS HONORED ON 15th BIRTHDAY WITH PARTY Billy Benner, son of Mrs. Dora Bcnner, was honored at a party given at the Yoncalla Church of Christ Friday celebrating his 15th birthday. Williams and son, Jimmie, spent the past week end in Portland visiting their daughter, Winifred, who is a stu dent nurse at Emanuel hospital. Mrs. John Mathis returned last week from a two -weeks visit with her mother in Emmett, Ida. Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Buckle and small daughter, Susan, of Woodland, Wash., were guests the past week of the former's mother, Mrs. Thomas Buckle, and broth ers. Nelson and Harvey. National School Assembly will pre sent the Noveltiers. Mr. and Mrs. C. Wade Henderer returned to Elkton Sunday night with a new school bus and their new car. The new bus has been put on the Kellogg route. The old Kel logg bus is now on the Henderer route and the old Henderer bus is now on the Drain-Elk Creek run. The enrollment at the grade school is 195 students. Mrs. John Fredrick of Corvollis has been visiting at the Don Har baugh home. She will leave this week for Coos Bay where she will visit another daughter. Mrs. Howard Carncs killed a black bear near their farm home last week. She used a .32 special rifle. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bishop of Dal las were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Carncs Sunday. - Sgt. 1st Class Kenneth Madison was home on leave over the week end. The Rev.
