Mrs. LurMne Abbott of Phoenix, Ariz., spent a few days visiting friends and relatives in Wilbur and Roseburg. O Mrs. Olga IlWvey returned t o Mercy hospital for a few days treatment after recovering from a rcciTit major operation. Mr. and Mrs. George snort spent the weekend vacationing and fish ing at coastal points. A ore-school clinic for first grad ers of Wilbur school will be held at the schoolhouse on August 21 start ing at 1 p.m. Any child who will not be able to attend because of transportation is asked to contact James Gainer, box 140, route 4, Roseburg for arrangements. The Boy Scout and Explorer troop, Number 119, returned from a week's outing at Camp Melakwa in the Three Sisters area Sunday. They reported an enjoyable vaca tion and returned with the Camp award, which consisted of the high est number of points collected in all camp sports. Troops from Eu gene and Drain also attended. Mr. W. D. Turner has been quite ill at his home, but Is reported im proved. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Howard and children, Vicky and Lossee, of Eu reka, Calif., spent the weekend visiting Mrs'. Differ ences about the "Rye" have blos somed into something of a feud on "Twenty Questions" heard Sunday eveninns on KRNR. Even Prince ton university's extensive research library facilities cannot solve the problem. The "Rve" In the song was a lis tener-submitted subject. Though it was guessed before the allotted 20 Questions hnd hpen used, oanel- 1st Fred Van DeVehtcr and mod erator Bill Slater, had differences as to the nature of the subject. One said it was "mineral." The other claimed it to be "vegetable." Van hied to Princeton's library and researched the problem more thoroughly. The Glasgow Herald, for example, claimed poet Robert Burns was thinking of the Kye river in Yorkshire, northern Eng land. Other literary experts be lieved Burns was thinking of the fields of rye. Then he checked further and discovered another In triguing complication to the prob lem. The lyrics of the ballad are not from the original Robert Burns' poem. They're by an anonymous author. Asks Van DeVenter, "How do you resolve that?"
