Crow ire back at their home on Cobb street in Roseburg, following a stay in Ashland, where the latter was guest artist at the weekly band concert. Mrs. Grow played an or gan concert as a prelude to the band concert and also played sev eral numbers with the band. Mr. and Mrs. Grow went to Ash land to meet the latter's brother-in-law and sister, Dr. and Mrs. Alva Taylor, of Chico, Calif., to at t e n d the Shakespearean plays "Twelfth Night" and "Henry IV." While in Ashland, they saw a num ber of former Roseburg residents. Dr. and Mrs. Taylor are well known in Roseburg, having visited at the Grow home several times. Dr. Taylor is head of the English department at the state college in Chico. MR. AND MRS. GOETTEL ENTERTAIN AT DINNER PARTY SUNDAY EVENING Mr. and Mrs. Nobel Goettel en tertained at- a charming dinner party at their lovely home 1 n Laurelwood Sunday evening. Cov ers were placed for Dr. and Mrs. W. F. Amiot, Mrs. Clara Frank lin, Mrs. Elizabeth Wardlaw and the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Goettel. &FOUR AND TEN CLUB HOLDS MEETING TO HONOR BIRTHDAYS The Four and Ten club met at the home of Nona Thompson hon oring all birthdays in July. Those honored were; Lenor Horn, Kay Simmons, Faye Jensen and Hat tie Guerin. New by-laws were read and ac cepted by the group. A copy for each member was to be typed. A special feature was the tell ing of fortunes of several mem bers. Ollie Krueger and Nona Thomp son were appointed as chairmen of the plays to be ready for prac tice soon. A special prize was won by Lenor Horn. Lovely gifts were presented to the honored guests .There will be several guests at the next meet ing. The "West Side" will serve at the next meeting to be held at the home of Mildred Gardner, Aug. 21 at a noon luncheon. Those hav ing birthdays in August 'will be honored. The "East Side" served a lovely luncheon to the honored mem bers and Viola Spencer, Eunice Beck, Vivian Nicoson, Ollie Krue ger, Faye Owens and son, Larry; Laverne Nickens, Mildred Gard ner and the hostess, Nona Thomp son. THIMBLE CLUB PICNIC IS ENJOYABLE AFFAIR AT UMPQUA PARK The Neighbors of Woodcraft Thimble club met July 23 with a picnic at Umpqua park. Joanne Payne was a guest. Members present were: Anna Hess, Malinda Miller, Winnie Hawn, Effie Croucher, Martha Er skine, Lydia Hooper, Dorothy Dent and Charlene; Hattie Neal, Lilly Lohr, Lois Burton, Cynthia Ger mond, Bertha Worthington and Nettie Hallcraft. Effie Croucher presented Hattie Neal with a birthday cake, and Virginia Rie bling presented Anna Hess with a birthday cake. The club prize was won by Dorothy Dent. The motif carried out by the dec orating committee was "Friend shin Oarden ." The white and vine- covered archway with a picket fence attached -on eacn sme was beautifully decorated with green erv and brilliant red gladioli. Gifts were presented in a tew ing box, the top of which was dec orated with a beautiful corsage made up of colored thread, pins, tapes and other sewing needs. This together with two umbrellas, formed the centerpiece. The party was held at the attractive home of Mrs. E. A. Barnes, on West Cen tral avenue in Sutherlin. The rooms were beautifully decorated in the traditional colors of pink and blue. David is attending OTI in Klamath Falls and is working at the Klamath Valley hospital for the summer months. After the wedding, which will take place in Roseburg, the bride-elect will return to Klamath Falls with her husband. The wedding date is set for September 9. WOMEN'S SOCIETY OF CHRISTIAN SERVICES MEETS AT LUNCHEON The Woman's Society of Chris tian Service of the First Metho dist church met for a 12:30 o'clock potluck lunheon Thursday at the home of Mrs. Paul Abcel at 1277 Umpqua avenue with members of Circle No. 2 and their leader, Mrs. J. E. Dent acting as assisting hostesses. Beautiful gladioli graced the din ing table and were used about the rooms in. large bouquets. Guests were Mrs. Sweet, sister of Mrs. L. M. Hodges; Mrs. John Dyck of British Columbia, who is the guest of Mrs. Leo Gillctt, and Miss Carolyn Burr. Covers were placed for 35 members. Mrs. Floyd Powell, president, conducted the business session and announced an executive board meeting to be held in the kitchen of the church Aug. 30. Mrs. J. M. POSTAL EMPLOYES AND FAMILIES ENJOY O PICNIC ON SUNDAY A most enjoyable potluck picnic supper was enjoyed by about 80 postal employes and their families Sunday afternoon at the Veterans hospital picnic grounds. Dysingeer Roseburg, took place July 29 at the First Baptist church in Springfield, Ore. The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Paul Felthouse in the presence of 100 friends and relatives. DON KRUSE HONORED AT PINK AND BLUE SHOWER A lovely pink and blue shower was given Monday night for Mrs. Don Kruse. The party was held at the H. B. Kruse home with Mrs. Don Harmon and Mrs. H. W. Conn as hostesses. Two large storks cen tered the table with a decorated basket at the end to hold the gifts. Appropriate games, in charge of Mrs. R. Neil Christian, were played with prizes going to Mrs. W. C. Bailey, Mrj. Wallace Cox and Mrs. C. M. Stark. THURSDAY AFTERNOON Members of Martha and Dor cas Circles of the Women's Guild of Faith Lutheran church met Thursday afternoon with Mrs. George Anderson and Mrs. Robert Kent as hostesses. Devotions were led by Rev. Wil lis F. Esickson who related the slory of Paul and Barnabus. An interesting program on the need for missions In the near east was conducted by Mrs. Chester Nord ling, Mrs. R. V. Coffman, Mrs. Hjalmer Johnson and Mrs. Earl Vastcrlieg. Final arrangements wore made for the ice cream so cial, which was held last Satur day night at the church and which proved to be a great success. The annual fall bazaar will be held December 7, at the J. C. Sporting Goods store. After the business meeting re freshments were served by the hostesses to Mrs. V. Fricdlund and Mrs. Hans Anderson, guests from Iron River, Mich., Rev. Mr. Erick .on and the following members: Mrs. Keith Carter, Mrs. R. V. Joelson will be co-hostess. CALIFORNIA VISITORS AT BEAUDRY HOME IN GLIDE Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bean of Hollydale, Calif., are spending their honeymoon at the home of Mrs. Bean's daughter, Mrs. C. A. Beaudry of Glide. The Beans were married in. Las Vegas, Nev., the latter part of July. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Beaudry entertained Friday in honor of the bride and bride groom who cut the decorated wed ding cake to be served to the guests present: Mr. and Mrs. L. N. MRS. G. E. STEPHENSON of Portland is in Roseburg at the house guest of her brother-in-law and lister, Mr. and Mrs. Paul K. Ryan, 504 E. Lane street. The young couple took a honey moon trip to the McKenzie dam and other points of interest. They will be at home in Eugene as the bridegroom is attending the Uni versity of Oregon. PICNIC ENJOYED BY SUTHERLIN GROUP A group of people from Suther lin enjoyed a delightful picnic Sun day at the Roseburg Rod and Gun club picnic grounds. Visiting was enjoyed after the dinner and later all returned to Sutherlin to the Lon Welsh home where canasta was in play.
