They toured the Redwoods- Gold Beach- Cape Sebastian- Trees of Mystery, the aquarium at Crescent City, and came home by way of the uregon Laves. Leaving For Utah Mrs. Har old Barber of Roseburg is leaving for Salt Lake City, Utah, where she will visit friends and relatives. Twelve Forest Lookouts Manned Twelve lookouts out of a prob able 14 have been manned in the Douglas Forest Protective associa tion network as hot, dry winds make full precautions necessary, reports U. F. McLaughlin, DFPA dispatcher. The last two of the 12 lookouts were manned today. They are Huckleberry lookout, occupied by Mr. and Mrs. David E. Lindplade,, and Bateman, by Ann Roth, Dil lard. Lookouts will be stationed later in the week at Baughman and Bell, near Elkton. A. D. Haynes will man the latter post when arrange ments have been made to make the 110-foot steel tower there more ac cessible. Bland mountain and Dutchman butte were occupied by George Walker and Elmer Weekly, respec tively, June 1. Virgil Woodruff took over Landis lookout Sunday; Elaine Weekly, Mt. Scott: Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Jans of Oregon State college, Live Oak; Mr. and Mrs. Richard M. Brandon, .'ellow butte; Pat Kent, Silver bulk, and Doro thy Olson, Ward's butte. Humidity went as low as 20 last Friday, said McLaughlin. The DFPA hopes to extend the protection road on Huckleberry I mntain through as far as the lookout sometime this year, Mc Laughlin said. Ore. 11 Calves,, Lambs Given For Two Rodeo Scrambles Roseburg firms donating calves and lambs for the scrambles in the Douglas county Sheriff's posse ro deo Saturday and Sunday are mak ing a great contribution to the wel fare of Douglas county youths and to the rodeo, notea W. H. "Doc" Carter. Carter estimates the aggregate cost of the 13 lambs and 10 calves at more than 11,600 an amount that he terms a substantial contri bution to the affair. The Iamb scramble, for 4-H girls, is the last part of the Saturday rodeo show, and the calf scram ble is the final event on the Sunday show. In the latter, 4-H boys will scramble for five calves first and Future Farmers wil finish up by capturing the remaining five. The youth gains possession by capturing the animal but he must break him to lead and bring him back in the fall for the Douglas county fair for show purposes. All the calves are purebred Herefords. P) In any fu ture battle of blimp versus snorkel, the 0. S. navy can throw in the world's largest non-rigid airship. The new giant "ZPN" type was flight tested here Monday. With a length of 324 feet and an envelope holding 873,000 cubic feet of helium gas, the ZP1 is nearly twice as fast as the blimps some 130 in number used for submarine-chasing in the last war. The big ZPN was designed to do about 73 knots an hour. The 1950 pack of fishery pro ducts for animal food totaled 2,721,. 393 standard cases, valued at 313, 870.870 to the canner.
