F. L. Thompson Upped. To lit Lieut. In Reserve Fayette L. Thompson III, Suth erlin, has been promoted to the grade of First lieutenant in the U.S. air force reserve, according to word received from headquarters, Fourth air force. Lt, Thompson is training officer for the 9415th volunteer air re serve training squadron, Roseburg, and has been affiliated with that organisation since its activation in 1947. He served during World War II as an enlisted man with the cen tral flying training command in the U. S. and overseas as a statis tical control officer at Tacloban, Leyte, P.I. ELECTRICITY KILLS TWO OREGON CITY P Two men were killed by electric shock here yesterday when a windmill they were moving fell across a high voltage line. They were Joe Pavlinac, 41, owner ot a farm south of here, and Albert Taylor, 40. A third man, Ben Lindau, was treated for shock at a local hospital. Home Economists Attend Meeting In Oregon College Mrs. Eugene Fisher, Kellogg, Mrs. Irvin Rice, Rice Valley, Mrs. A. F. Meyers, route 3. Roseburg, and Betty Jane Patterson, Rose burg, represented Douglas county at the Oregon Home Economics Extension council's 19th annual meeting June 6 and 7 at CorvaUis. Theme of the meeting was "Working Together for World Un derstandings." Dr. A. L. Strand, Oregon State college president, spoke on "Home Life in the Philippines." He discussed how the people there lived, ate and thought. He empha sized that "We of America should learn to understand our foreign neighbors." Mrs. Edgar I-eming of Corne lius, and Mrs. E. E. Kilpartick of Merrill, who attended a trienniel conference of the Associated Coun try Women of the World held in Copenhagen, Denmark, showed colored slides and tlked about the home life in Denmark and other European countries. The state council has been work ing the past three years on a proj ect to raise funds to build a girls co-operative house on the Oregon Stale campus. This year they com piled their goal of raising $45,000 to build this house. The final check was presented to Dr. Strand at the banquet Wednesday eveninj. Dr. Strand expressed his thanks. He said Azalea house would be built by the tall of 1952 and would be primarily used for outstand ing 4-li club members and girls interested in home economics. The house will be one of low living cost. Linn and Benton counties have women's choruses consisting of home extension unit members. Both choruses appeared at the luncheon and banquet. New officers elected are: Mrs. E. E. Kilpatrick, Merrill, presi dent; Mrs. Leslie G. Kribs, Bend, vice-president; Mrs. Harold Reiley, Halsey, treasurer; and Mrs. Rus sell Ebbert, Springfield, secretary. Among the several acts will be "Clothesline Capers," an original musical skit, with Reg Brown, son of Mr. and Mri. W. Frank Brows of Days Creek, who has recently moved here from California, directing the music, In this skit, Barbara Snyder will take the singing lead. Included also will be a one-act play with Bette Mallery, Marylyn Price and Betty Aker taking the roles. The program will be diver sified for general audience appeal. At a recent meeting at th W. Frank Brown home, final plans were made for the big show and rehearsals were held. At the close of the business of the evening. Mrs. Brown served refreshments and there was group singing. Mrs. An ton Erlebach gave a reading and Mrs. Lucille MacLean, Lynn and Ann Maclean gave a preview of their part in the coming produc tion. Among those at the meeting were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gosnell and their daughter, Marcy, Mrs. George Aker, Mrs. Horace Cor bett, Mrs. MacLean and her three daughters, Lynn, Anne, and Nancy, and Mrs. Anton Erlebach. Along with those who wilt go to the 4 M summer camp in Corvallis from June 12 to June 22 will be Charlotte Collins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Collins, and Fran ces King, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred King, both of Tiller. These girls each received a schol arship to attend the ten-day camp. On Saturday night, June 16 resi dents of the Tiller area will attend a basket social at the Drew dance hall. The new owners expect to take possession July 1. They aaid they will hire an editor to operate the Journal. Roseburg Representative Attends DtMolay Session Four representatives from Rose burg will attend the second-district conclave of th Order of DeMolay at Ashland today. Roseburg members at the meet ing will be State Officer Vern Thompson, Counselora Lauren Loveland and Bill Clarenbach, and Scribe Dean McFall. The second district of th Order of DeMolay encompasses Rose burg, Kirby, Cave Junction, Med ford, Klamath Falls, Lakeview and Ashland. In April the state meeting was held, and the next district conclave haa been scheduled for September.
