Annual Report Of Roseburg Salvation Army Shows Considerable Aid Given The Roseburg Salvation Army post rendered considerable assis tance to the needy in the city and Douglas county in 1950, ac cording to the annual report re cently released by Lt. and Mrs. Dal Madsen, commanding of ficers of the Roseburg post. More than 1200 persons applied for aid and the post provided the following services: 259 lodgings, 88 meals, 7 transits, 96 garments and shoes, and other aid. A total of 576 transients were assisted. . Assistance Listed Families were aided by four grocery orders, 2965 garments, and 235 pairs of shoes. Assistance ren dered at Christmas by the post included: 31 grocery orders, 172 individuals assisted, 150 toys dis tributed, two children's Christmas parties with an atendance of 220 and two prisoner's families aided. Income for the year totaled more than $12,000 which was nearly all absorbed by expenses. Commun ity Chest support amounted t o 13.607.60. Lt. The heavy frosts of last weekend have done consideranle uamage j.i this district. Tomatoes, some cab bages, and even some peas were burned severely. The walnut trees are completely blackened. George Millen, above "The Singing Evangelist," arrived in Roseburg Wednesday to conduct special meetings at the North Rose burg church from April 29 to May I 6. The Rev. Mr. Millen will be ' the guest speaker and baritone solo ist for the "Good News Campaign," a week of evangelistic meetings, which are open to the public, lie previously appeared at the Rose burg high school in January, 19.S0, as the director and soloist for the "Gospel Gleemen," a male chorus of 30 ministers. "The Singing Evangelist" is ac tually the pastor of the Unionvalla Evangelical United Rrethern church near Dayton, where he re-. cently directed an inter cnurcn choir. Millen was recently ap pointed as youth advisor for the ' Evangelical United Brethcrn churches in Oregon and Washing Ion, in addition to being in fre quent demand as song leader and soloist in evangelistic meetings and summer camps. Although the public meetings of the "Good News Campaign" do not begin until next Sunday, the Rev.
