Ross Jr's attorney said Friday he is dismissing the suit he filed here to enable Mrs. Ross to obtain an uncontested di- First Social Security Tax For People In Non-Farm Homes And On Farms Nears By JAMES MAR LOW WASHINGTON (AP) The time is near for pay ment of the first Social Security tax on people employed in non-farm homes and on farms. This tax covering the quarterly period of January, February, March should be paid between April 1 and 30 by the housewife or farm owner. What follows is for the benefit of those in both groups if they're uncertain about their case and need further in formation on what to do. Starting Jan. 1, the new Social Security law covers do mestic workers in non-farm homes and workers on farms if they fit the rules. Not all will fit the rules and soj are not covered. Since the rules are slightly different for both groups, they'll be handled separ ately here. People (domestics) in non-farm homes: Who are they: a cook, maid, eardner. chauffeur, or even a baby sitter if he or she fits the rules covering domestic workers. Trial Of British Soldier Dismissed TOKYO (.W Robert Fargic, 29-year-old British soldier, Monday was freed of all charges in connec tion with the killing of a Korean school teacher while on sentry duty in Taegu. Lt. Gen. Sir Horace Robertson, commander in chief of the British Commonwealth occupation forces in Japan, refused to con firm the findings of a general courts martial and said Fargic should not be re tried. The court on Jan. 26 found Far gie not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter. It sen tenced him to 10 years imprison ment and discharge "with ignom iny" from his majesty's service. Fargie was charged with shoot ing Lee Sang U on Nov. 30, 1950, in a dark lane just outside a signal corps compound where Fargie was standing guard. Fargie pleaded innocent. The defense said the shooting was justi fied. Fargie said he had challenged three times and then fired one shot over the heads of three Korean ci vilians who, he said, had attempted to enter the dump. vorce in Florida. J Red Hoax Bared When Convention Fails To Occur FRANKFURT, Germany (.PI West German Communist bosses issued an anti-rearmament mani festo Saturday on behalf of a party convention that never took place. The hoax was unwittingly con firmed by party officials at Mu nich, where the convention was to have been hehl last week but was indefinitely postponed. Bavarian State Chairman Her mann Schirmer, unaware that the manifesto had been published by party newspaper in Frankfurt, said no new date had yet been set for the convention. But the Red Organ here Sozial itische Volkszeitung splashed a 1,500-word manifesto across its front page with the claim it had , been unanimously adopted by 1,148 ; delegates in Munich March 3. I Bart'Factd Fraud The newspaper also published an alleged telegram to l'rime Minis ter Stalin, in which it said the assembled delegates promised their party would "become the leading force in the people's movement against militarization. Allied observers said the top Communist leadership had been caught in a bare-faced fraud as a result of chaotic party conditions. Eight out of 11 state chairmen have been bloodlessly purged recently, and many of West Germany's 150, 000 Communists are under sus picion of party disloyally. The West German convention at Munich was to have been devoted to "self-criticism," a Communist term for wholesale confession of past ideological errors. Richard Jones Stationed At Navy Base On Midway Richard Jones, aerographer's male first class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs, George Jones of 531 Cobb St.. Roseburg. is scrvin'! with the operations unit at the U. S. naval1 station, Midway, in the Pacilic area. The naval station on Midway is land, closed in June. 19M and re opened in August of the same year, is now being utilized as a re-fueling base for air evacuation planes returning from the battle fronts in Korea. While stopping at Midway, which is located almost in the exact cen ter of the North Pacific ocean, the patients aboard these air evacua tion planes receive hot meals at the plane terminal which ia open 24 hours a day.
