o 0 Canyonville PTA Drivt For Membership Completed Mrs. H. M. Anderson, president of the Canyonville PTA, Mri. C-eorge Rrinkwnrth, Mrs. R, A. HuKton. Mrs. William Cox. Mrs. Ge"r!e McClane Sr.. and Mrs. Ed Oaks were hostesses at a parly fiven for the students of Mrs. W. Worrall'i sixth grade Friday afternoon. The occasion was the comple tion of the PTA membership drive, which the sixth grade room won, having obtained 79 members, Allen "Jackie" Russell was pre sented with a football for having secured 22 members. Carol Brink- worth and Jeane Harry received gifts for getting 12 members each. The sixth grade students pre sented a short -program consisting of musical numbers, singing and speaking. Ice cream and cup cakes were served from a table -covered with a lace cloth, with sugar plum tree dei orated with colored Christmas tree ornaments forming a center piece. About 40 percent of the laiid area of the I'nited States has too little rain for safe general farming. Everyone con cerned was delighted with the an tics of the animated Ixiis . . . until she suddenly fell. . .and broke her font! Followed then, fifteen weeks of lying in bed listening lo mad man McCarl and his daily "It's Requested" show. So on her first day out (also her nineteenth birth day). Ixiis appear at the KRNR studios to meet the indirect cause of all her trouble. . . Boh McCarl. And then an incredible thing hap pened. ... as if fifteen weeks of lorced listening to McCarl's re quest show weren't enough, I,ois . stayed around long enough to sit-in on the full AS minutes of Monday's "It's Requested". . . "to see if Bob McCarl is really as crazy as he sounds," she said. Mutual-Don Lee's laugh-provoking "Twenty Questions" program (Sundays. 8:00-8:30 p.m.), has been selected by the Canadian delega tion to the UN as its favorite American radio show. And to in form panelists Fred Vandeventer. Florence Rinard, Herb Polesie and Johnny McPhr-e of the honor, the delegation 20 strong visited the Sunday. The scouts served refreshments, provided by the Town and Country club, to their parents and friends. jWift Of Former Oakland Resident Dies In Canada Mrs. Hannah Bainbridge Green, AO, wife of Ed Green, who is a former resident of the Red hill dis trict near Oakland, died last Nov. 30 at Erskine, Alberta, Canada. She was born Jan 4. 1AT0. at Hulland Moss, Derbyshire, Eng land. She came to the U.S. as a small child and spent her early life at the family home in Driver vclley, moving to Canada soon af ter her marriage. She had lived in Canada for over SO years. She is surtived by the widower, fnui sons and two daughters in ('nada : a sister, Mary Bainbridge of Oakland; four nieces, Mrs. Komie Howard of Yoncalla, Mrs. Hazel Clarke of Rosehurg, Miss Mildred Kanipe of Oakland. Of the total' reported, $1.343.2S9,277 represents property that waa assessed by the county assessors and equaliKetl by the county hoards of eoualizatioi and t-M.576.98S ia public utility properties assessed, equalized ami apportioned by the State Tax com mission. The value of real property as shown by the tax commission sum mary of assosment rolls is $1,011.- 977,804, and the value of personal property is I3.T6.fl27.80S, which are reduced by the amount of M.67S.- S62 because of veteran and widow exemptions. Multnomah county leails in as sessed valuation with S6U8.7fl6.27fl, followed by Lane county with 114.- 437,088. Clr.ckamas county is third with $77,563,610, and Marion county is fourth with 172,770,809. Wheeler county has the least assessed val uation with S4.22.'.2S8. Other coun ties with low valua'iont are Curry vith $6,306,427 and Crook with $8,278,134. The 19S0 assessed valuation of Lane county haa increased 20. percent over the 1949 valuation; , the valuation of Douglas county has increased 11.1 percent: Cist, stop, 9 4 percent; and Jefferson, 9 3 percent. Five counties Klam ath. Polk, Tillamook, Wallowa, and Wheeler have had decrease in assessed valuation, varying from a decrease of 4.1 percent in Wheeler county to 0.4 percent in Polk county. Canyonville Civic Club Reports Library Work The Women's Civic club of Can yonville reports that the interior of the city library building Is about complete. Some shelving is In and the books are being catalogued. Opening date will be enounced as soon as this is completed. Anyone having books to donate should no tify any of the members. The club abjective now ' la to raise funds (o stucco outside walls. A card party scheduled for Satur day Dec. 16, is for this purpose. They also will serve lunch at the Rod and Gun club turkey shoot Dec. 17.
