The Los Angelea Times reported that incomplete survey! by mining engineers indicate there may be a much as 10,000,000 tons of carnotite bearing rock in t belt six to 10 miles wjde between the two west ern New Mexico towns. The discovery was made by a Na vajo Indian Paddy Martinez, 59. He said he heard some men talking last summer about how the gov ernment was offering $10,000 for discovery of certain types of ura nium, so "I decided to keep my eyes open." S-264 Market For Eggs Sags Under Burden Of High Prices WASHINGTON -(VP) High prices have driven the Agriculture department as well as some con sumers out of the market for eggs. Officials said the department has bought none during the last two weeks and less than one half of one percent of the production dur ing the last two months. For the year to date, the depart ment haa bought about aix percent of egg production under a price support program. The agency buys eggs only when prices drop to about 25 centa a dozen in the Mid-west, the surplus producing area of the country. Mont of this year'a pur chases were made by midsummer. Its buying has been limited to dried eggs. These eg,s are pro cessed chiefly from low quality, ungraded eggs for which there is no consumer market. . Department buying has been heaviest in the late winter and spring. Egg production is largest in this period. It far outstrips con sumer demands. For example, hens this year laid 60 percent more eg;s in April than in November. It is this difference in rate of production that is largely respon sible for surpluses and low farm prices in the first iialf of the year and shorter supplies and high prices in the last half of the year. Department holdings of dried eggs are available for consumer markets but there is no demand for them. Some of the dried eggs have been sold abroad at very low prices. Rx M. Butler, 31, and Percy Ball, 27, both pleaded guilty to a charge of assault with intent to commit murder. Estella Kirk, 24. also indicted be cause of the shooting, did not enter a plea. Her arraignment was post poned. Miss Kirk is accused of being with Butler and Ball the night they drove to the house of John F. Ar kell, law enforcement agent on the Klamath reservation. She is ac cused of tei'.'ng Arkell someone in the car wartec to confess a killing. Butler and Ball admitted opening fire on Arkell with rifles when he walked toward the car. Their shots inflicted powder burns and creased Arkell'a ear, but he was otherwise unharmed. A neighbor, armed with a pistol, rushed to Arkell'a defense, and the attacker fled. Still another person in the case, Marceline Vera Herksham, was placed on probation for three years. She pleaded guilty to har boring Butler after the attack on Arkell. The defense attorney said Ball and Butler had no revenge motive in the shooting. They blamed th affair on liquor. Draft Board Members Would Kick Congressmen WOLF POINT, Mont. UP) Two local draft board members want to know if t"y can t "kick our congressmen in the pants with out receiving permission from se lective service headquarters." Roosevelt county board Chair man B. R. Taylor and member Kcrt Kloman put the question to Gen. Lewis B. Hershey. It was their answer to the selective ser vice director's order suspending them for saying they didn't want to draft more men unless the atom bomb is used in Korea. Gov. John W. Bonner called their resolution In Montana congressmen "Akin to Mutiny." He asked, but didn't receive, their resignations.
