Members of the board told four parents of band members that they consider a trip to Alaska un wise, especially in view of the in ternaional crisis. A recent questionnaire showed that about 75 percent of hand mem bers' parents favor the trip, which has been a subject of controversy in Eugene. Board members. In their action, indicated that parents supporting the planned trip must take respon sihihity for the tour, if they still wish to conduct it. Another assignment change, that of h red Shideler to become directo of Oregon State college news bur eau, also was approved. He has been head of the department of journalism and will continue. John C. Burtner, who long headed the newa bureau, has been ill for some lime. The board accepted a number of grants and gifts, the largest being 125.000 from the V. S. Public Health service to extend the can cer training program at the medi cal sahool. Among major bequests to Doern becher children's hospital was one of SMUO from the estate of Flora ('. Hunter, The Dalles, and one of $6000 from the estate of Elizabeth Fowler, Kogue River. J Other grants were for widely divergent purposes. The board formally approved building plans at the University of Oregon for the school of business administration and social science departments and directed that final plans for a journalism building be dritwn.
