Communist China Doesn't
Realize Its Present Status
As Tool For Soviet Designs
y DEWITT MACKENZIE
AP Foreign Affairs Analyst
We folks of the Wtiterrt world know or at least should
know by this time that Moscow it behind the Communist ag
gression in Korea.
We know that this is part of the Soviet plot to throw us
off balance militarily, and at the same time bleed us economically
so as to whittle us down to Russia's siie.
However, the people of Asia ai
a whole don't know these facts.
Even the millions of Red China,
who are so vitally concerned.
don't know them.
On the contrary the Chinese

Chiang Urges Revolt
CoTticidenlly, Generalissimo Chi
ang kai-shek, the Nationalist
leader, has inaugurated daily
broadcasts to the mainland from
his headquarters on the island of
Formosa. These messages call on
with propaganda that they are
resisting Americai. aggression in
Korea. They are being told that
the United States is bent on a
program of imperialism in the
orient.
At a matter of fact, well in
formed Chinese Nationalist quar
ters tell me there it considerable
doubt whether the Chinese Com
munist leader, General Mao Tie
Tung, hat figured out yet just
what hit posiition it at regardt
the Russians. Many think he pic
tures himself as having an equal
partnership in the creation of a
great Communist empire in which Chinese troops not to fight against
China will play the leading Asi-jthe United States and the other

The Niiionallst broadcasts also
have been calling on the Chinese
troops in the Communist armies
to revolt where they can. And
Nationalist quarters say some mu
tinies have been reported. In any
event, these daily messages are
bound to help spread the truth
about Moscow's true designt in
the Far East.
The United Nations strategy
goes an important step further.
Having emphasized the good in
tentions of the U.N. operations in
Korea, the peace organization it
making it clear a that continued
Chinese intervention in Korea will
result in strong action.
In that connection it It inter

contribute hit army of tome half
million troops to any United Na
tions operation in Korea.

YOU'LL choose the new FERGUSON TRACTOR!
Your next tractor eould cost you hundreds of wasted dollari in
needless upkeep on a big expensive machineall because of the often
mistaken idea that a lot of built-in weight is the only way u make
sure of ample traction.
With the Ferguson System, there's no need for ballast weight.
Trarlion is developed au'nmaliralli a needed. 3-Point Linkage of
implement to tractor and hydraulic control make use of natural
forces to automatically increase weight and traction to suit t he job.
Traction with the Ferguson System gives the Ferguson Tractor
power efficiency equal to tractors of much larger si 7.0 and greater
weight.
The specially-designed Continental valve-in-head engine stresses
economy as well as more than ample 2-plow power.
Before you buy 1 new tractor, measure the job4o-iob rytformance
of the New Ferguson against ens; other tractor.

Fixing Of Tax Basti
By Local Units Favored
O
SALEM .V- The legislative
interim tax committee has rec
ommended that local taxing unita
be allowed to establish new
properly tax bases at primary or
general elections.
The committee will submit its
recommendation to (he legislature.
I'nder the proposal, a school dis
trict, for instance, could establish
a new tax basis and thut not have
to hold special elections each year
to raise money for budgets.
At itt September meeting, the
committee had decided to allow a
new tax basea to be created at
any election at which 40 percent of
the registered voters turned out.
But the committee hat now de
cided against the 40 percent requirement.

IVhat 'Integration Means to You
in Peace or for Defense
THE Springfield plant pictured above demonstrate the diversification and
integration principle which ia being applied to all of our millsitea at rapidly
ai possible. Through this system of more efficient and economical operation
wt are able to make more products from lens timber. It ia possible to build
such integrated plants because each one ia backed by a tree farm growing an
endless, supply of timber making this a dependably permanent industry.
In peacetime such efficient plant offer ateady joba, community stability,
a ateady eource of tax revenue to government for schools and other use, a
more reliable source of income to shareholder, and a ateady flow of fine
forest product for customer.
In time of national emergency, auch a plant can be instantly and effec
tively converted from turning out lumber for home and pulp for books to
making hoviber and pulp for military use.
Ye America' huge, efficient productive capacity created to provide
pleasant living and security in peace, ia one of her greatest strengths in war!
